We've Been Played on Immigration

RUSH: We go to immigration. In a remarkable turn of events, all eight Gang of Eight members voted to table the Grassley amendment, to have control of the border for six months before the amnesty kicks in. And, by the way, don't call it amnesty. It isn't amnesty. That's the latest claim from the powers that be. The Grassley amendment to the Gang of Eight bill simply said we would gain control of the border for six months before any other aspect of the bill -- which is exactly what we were told was supported from the get-go. That's exactly what we were told the condition was: Border security first, or nothing. Now of course that's out the window. So is the Grassley amendment out the window with control of the border for six months.

And again, this despite the sponsors having -- I don't know. I thought I was promised. I thought we were all promised that enforcement would be the key here. I also thought there would be an open amendment process. There's polling data that shows the American people want enforcement first by a 4-to-1 margin. But none of this makes any sense. Try as I have, I can't understand how it makes any sense. I don't understand how the Republicans do not understand what they're doing to themselves with this. I do not understand how it is they do not see what's happening. I don't understand how they don't get what the Democrats are doing, how the Democrats are playing them. I don't get it.

We've talked about this. The Hispanic vote was not even 8% of the electorate. There was a poll out -- I mentioned this to you some weeks ago -- if Romney had got 70% of the Hispanic vote -- and no Republican ever has the -- he still would not have won. The Republicans got 37% of the Hispanic vote back in 1984. Then in 1986, they did amnesty. Then they got 30%. They lost 7% of the Hispanic vote after amnesty in 1988 election when George H. W. Bush ran. The polling data is clear: 70% of the Hispanic voters are gonna vote Democrat no matter what. You bring 11 to 12 million new people out of the shadows, and they're -- I don't know what I'm missing. On the surface, what it appears is -- and I can't believe this. It appears that the Republicans really do fear what the Democrats tell them, that the Hispanics hate you, the Hispanics don't like you, the Hispanics are never gonna vote for you unless you change your opinion on immigration.

I try to put myself in the position of being a Republican in the House or the Senate. I can't for the life of me understand it. I don't understand how they don't see what this is going to do to their party. For the life of me, I don't understand it. Nobody has been able to make me understand what I'm missing. What is the secret that we don't get? What's the secret that we're missing, that they know, that we don't know? Because, on the surface, this doesn't appear to make any sense.

In order to have been played, it has to have been somewhat of a suprise.

You just weren't paying attention.

I mean come'on this has been going on for over a decade now.

You watch. If this so called “immigration” bill passes and becomes law the democrats will suddenly start using the “A” word to refer to it because they know that republicans like Rubio who support Amnesty will be hurt much more than those on the other side of the aisle. And you know what? The democrats will be correct when they do start using the “A” word. It IS Amnesty.

They are building a one world government. There will be no America to fight it or escape to. In fact, Amerika will be the new evil empire.

98% of those who will be legalized are Mexican.
Rubio is Cuban. Those things don’t necessarily equate.

I love Rush —totally adore him. But he has been suckered by Rubio.

So has Hannity. But HAVE they really so blind a spot?

It doesn't make sense from an economic or national security level either. Our gov't has turned against us. We are the enemy now.

It also doubles legal immigration of which muslim countries have priority, and they want to bring in at least 70k muslim Syrian refugees. Just what we need, more muslims.

The biggest question is how do we/can we stop them??

For what it’s worth, I just emailed Dan Coats and told him to vote against this bill. I didn’t bother to email Donnelly, he’s a Dem and a freshman, so he’ll do anything Reid tells him to do. Coats needs to go, just like Lugar did.

just was listening to this. He is right. The Republicans have lost their minds. What the heck is going on in Washington?? Do we the people need to go there and just be standing over our Senators and Congressman all the time reminding them of their duties?

What's going on can be discerned by the recent revelation of the NSA's domestic spying and the IRS political targeting — those in power are purging any opposition to statism and the corruption statism encourages: this is why there are a lot of "Republicans" who are demonizing Snowden, this is why there's been zero vigor in prosecuting Fast & Furious (or Benghazi), this is even why all challenges to Obama's eligibility have come to naught.

Yes, we as-a-people need to go there... but not to stand over their shoulders, we need to place a noose there.

What I don’t get is why the unemployed (especially young) citizens don’t get angry that they want to “bring 11 million people into the workforce”? Unemployment rate is lower in Mexico.

If Rubio is a Republican, I must be "something else!"

However, as I am older than Rubio and as such, a Republican much longer than he, so I am the Republican and it is HE that is "something else!"

The people who thought Rubio, who has always spoken of a pathway for illegals, was anything different from what he is now are the ones who were played.
I don’t see how we were played elsewise.

I have addressed how rooted American Conservatives should explain their position to Senator Rubio, in a way that goes to the real point, but in a non-insulting manner; but the idea has not caught on (Whither American Conservatism).

We have to stop dancing around this. Our culture reflects our population. People create their culture, not the other way around. (See Immigration & The American Future.)

There is nothing in the least unfair or wrong about any people wishing to maintain their continuity in the land of their fathers. What is terribly wrong is for phoney "Conservatives" to embrace a "diversity cult," that seeks to break down the qualities that make nations unique. That is what is in play here (a world-wide attack on the very concept of the traditional nation).

Yes, but as far as US political system is concerned hispanics is hispanics.

Besides, I'm pretty certain that, generally, given a choice between a person with a hispanic surname and a ol' white guy a majority of hispanics of all stripes will forget the Puerto Rican part.

Sam thing is true with asians, BTW. Between them, chinese dislike japanese who dislike koreans, etc. But here they're considered a monolith.

Rush was suckered by Rubio, and the American people....who (he consistently has claimed over the years)...are to be trusted.

For many years he also refused to talk about the MSM working for the Dems....said it sounded like we were whining.

Of course now his entire show is devoted to media bias, and the ignorance and greed of the American voters.

Hopefully his next step will be to get real about the death of the Republican Party.

I agree, as much as I like Rush, and as much as he usually sees through RINOs, on this one he has been totally played by Rubio. He wanted to like him so much, that he became infatuated with him. When Rubio was on his show last time he treated him with velvet gloves.

Today he pretty much admitted that he was played. I hope he will come out and make a full throated admissions that he was wrong in giving Rubio the benefit of the doubt.
