Secret Service "Visits" Outspoken Critic of Obama - Because of Twitter?
Examiner.com ^ | 6/11/13 | Harriet Baldwin

After you read this- you will wonder what country we are in.

Tom Francois is an outspoken critic of Barack Hussein Obama- and has a robust Twitter presence. He also likes to dabble with his "paint" program to create funny cartoons. He has never threatened the President in any way, manner or form.

On April 11, 2013, he heard relentless pounding on his door shouts of "Police!" The officers introduced themselves as members of The Secret Service and asked if they could "take a look around."

Since Tom had nothing to hide (and he didn't want any return visits) - he complied fully with their request. He even signed a consent to search his premises AND an "Authorization To Review Medical and Mental Health Records!"

They asked Tom if he ever left his state or traveled to Washington, D.C.

Better get your pressure cookers before they require an extensive background check.

Not that one. {{{{SHUDDER}}}}

Ever see the farside cartoon where they threaten to use "Mr. Thingy" on the suspect that won't talk. I don't know about you but, that one would have me shaking in my boots.

“I got the dreaded phone call. Actually a nice lady and we did it over the phone.”

Not into stories about phone sex. Sorry.

So, I guess I must upgrade my disdainful rhetoric about Obama. At 67 what are they going to do to me ...

You should be afraid of what they can do to your children and grandchildren.

I have nothing to hide and I still wouldn’t let them take a look around. I will, however, take out my cell phone and begin recording the entire exchange, inform them of my intent to post it on the internet, and tell them to go ahead and make any not-so-subtle threats to my freedom they care to have the world see.

You actually think they would just stand there and let you do that?

If this ever happens to you... refuse to let them in without a warrant, then call conservative bloggers and reporters and a conservative lawyer pronto...

Actually right now the ACLU is on our side on this. It might not hurt to give them a shout either. They actually went to court for student several years ago that wanted to start a "Rush Limbaugh" club on a college campus.

Why do people keep spouting that “I have nothing to hide...” crap? Tell them no, not without a warrant.

They know He-Who-Must-Never-Be-Named is watching and listening to everything they do, too. And they don’t like it.

A couple of the quotes in this story seem......fishy to me:

When they left Tom's house, one Secret Service Agent 'advised'-"Keep in mind, if you step over the line, we'll come back for your guns."

and

They said they were going to "turn it over to Eric Holder- he has the last word on what to do, if anything."

Call me cynical, but I just can't see those words (either quote) coming out of the mouth of a Secret Service agent (not least because the Secret Service is part of the Department of the Treasury, so it doesn't even report up to Holder). Those quotes strike me as implausible at the least, and quite possibly made up.

after the last couple of days then maybe if they did read this site they might be happy with a couple of freepers seeing as those couple think it’s alright to spy on all of us and then call someone a traitor but can’t even answer a simple questions like what secrets did he give away which harms the country?

From what I gather, the SS showed up with a picture of AF1, full of holes, and asked “Did you post this?” Tom Francois claimed he never posted it, and, having looked at the Twitter page, I can't find it, although that doesn't mean he did post it and removed it. Still, in the context of the rest of the posts, it would be very incongruent. I don't know what to make of this.

For many years. Put an ip watcher on your homepage or your blog if you write one.

And those are just the ips you can see. I am sure there are less detectable ways.

I would have told them hell no, get a warrant. Then take pictures of everything they did and call the local news. I would have really been on their radar after that.

Agreed. Never consent to a search. Never. That’s what they want. Make them get a warrant that you can use against them later.

“You actually think they would just stand there and let you do that?”

I should say, the scenario I described assumed the agent paying the visit is trying to toss around “athori-tah” instead of being professional and polite. I only give respect when I’m given respect.

That said, they wouldn’t be able to do anything more to me than they did with Doug Tankersley. If you’re unfamiliar with his case, you can find it at the Photography Is Not a Crime site.

Long story short: He’s photographing flowers near a dam. FBI pays him a visit. He greets the FBI agent with a camcorder. The agent acted professionally.

Personally, I would not have conversed with the agent for as long as Doug did — only because the longer you talk the more you open yourself to an inadvertent lie to a federal agent, even if it’s something said in jest.

“They won’t like that, and it might cause the person doing it more trouble. I do wonder why someone so new would post that which might be bad advice.”

Oh thanks — I’ll be sure to ask your opinion about what opinions I should be able to post because of my sign up date before making any future posts.

I’m not paranoid. I have the 2A and I’m not afraid to use it.

They not searching our data for foreign terrorists. They’re searching it to create domestic terrorists out of thin air.

I won’t be turned into a terrorist because the NSA says so. We surround them. Two can play that game.
