A 29-year-old former CIA worker and current defense contractor employee has come forward as the source of the National Security Agency leaks to The Guardian newspaper:
The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.
The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong, he said.
Snowden will go down in history as one of Americas most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the worlds most secretive organisations the NSA.
In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions, but I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.

Here it is in the UK. Evidently he is in Hong Kong.
There is a video he posted at the link, but so far I got no audio on it when I tried to play it.
Edward Snowden: the whistleblower behind revelations of NSA surveillance
I see the left is wasting no time in calling Snowden a traitor on various sites. This country is a major league joke in the eyes of the world.
I doubt Mr. snowden appreciates the tons of poop about to descend on him. I wonder how he’ll pay an attorney with no job, no clearance, and no savings.
China will arrest him in Hong Kong, take him to China for some manufactured crime, he’ll end up dead, WH will shrug its shoulders.
Snowden could really screw with the commie ‘RATS’ heads by coming out and saying that he is “gay” and was inspired by Bradley Manning. LOL!
He’s no doubt secreted a trove of juicy documents with instructions to release them “if anything happens to me”.
The 29-year-old source behind the biggest intelligence leak in the NSA’s history explains his motives, his uncertain future and why he never intended on hiding in the shadows.
His stint coincided approximately with the release of climategate information.
Wonder if he had anything to do with that...
Democrats and security clearances; BAD COMBINATION.
(I'm totally serious about this, if only to cement the comparison between Obama and Nixon firmly in place.)
So you’re OK with NSA having a dossier of all your personal and private information even though you’ve done nothing wrong?
Information soon to include your medical information and DNA sequence?
I’m to understand you’re OK with that?
What climategate information are you speaking of?
Don’t forget 0bama’s multi-billion dollar obsession with mapping the human brain. Anyone think that’s for good? Hell no. It’s for figuring out which Americans to send to FEMA camps.

I’ll make a deal with DC.
They stop importing islamderthals and secure our border and I’ll worry about the muslims already here.
CHECK YOUR SIX!
They already have the DNA of every child born in this country in the past 10 years. Permanently. Refusing to delete or destroy it.
Because. Or something.
So when does the IRS claim racism?
Gosh, I had forgotten all about the brain mapping. *chills*
“China will arrest him in Hong Kong, take him to China for some manufactured crime, hell end up dead, WH will shrug its shoulders.”
Obama met CHina’s president on Friday. Maybe they discussed that.
That would be the intelligent thing to do.
Excuse any double pings. This is a live one.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Dead man walking.
The US has an extradition treaty with Hong Kong; he might as well as jump off the balcony or put a bullet through his head.
Praying now for Edward Snowden’s protection.
wow. very intelligent, articulate, insightful, and courageous man. 29 years old! I applaud his commitment to transparency here.
Not only that,do not forget DHS. They are freaking evil. They concentrate on Americans. They don’t give a crap about preventing islamic terrorism. They don’t offend terrorists, only us. When you link surveillance of we the people and aunt janet’s war on us it is really really scary.
Can anyone tell me I am a conspiracy theorist? Cause this feels downright Orwellian. I want a don’t tread on me tatoo on my forehead, well maybe not quite there.
This young man is a true patriot.
It’s actually win-win for China to protect him: the populace is satisfied that free speech is protected, with the added bonus of sticking to POSHITUS and his tacky gifts and wife.
My money is on this guy. He's far smarter than Obama and Obama's henchmen... and I guarantee that he's has plenty of dirt of a lot of important people. This is going to be the story of a lifetime... far more so than Watergate ever was.
they can’t kill him now without validating the rest and looking as they truly are—tyrants. he has already done his job of exposure. the train has left the station. bless this man. he is an American hero.
I agree with you. And how did I forget ‘DHS’? Great point. We need to find out what the REAL purpose of their hollow point ammo is. THAT is disconcerting. Hollow points are NOT for training. Napolitano has been quiet lately. What’s up with that? Face lift like Hillary maybe?
Yes. Yes. Yes and yes!
I doubt he is really in Hong Kong. That is just to throw the scent off for the dogs. He would be far safer in the world’s largest democracy.
Not much doubt in my mind that DHS is the main recipient of this domestic intelligence. Nor do I doubt it has and will continue to be used for political purposes. Coup in progress as Rush says. Back when the Patriot Act was being debated, those who warned that freedom and security conflict at points, were not listened to. Now we have a tyrant in office who won’t hesitate to play the “safe” card.
I think I speak for all FReepers when I say this guy is a real traitor and deserves to have all the full weight of the law come down on him.
I think I speak for all FReepers when I say We the People don’t need to know what the government is doing to us, especially if they say it is for our own good.
Especially if they say they keep us safe.
Being kept safe from the terrorism is worth anything the government could ever do to us.
If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide.
I think I speak for all FReepers when I say that the government can do to us whatever they deem they need to do because they are pretty much holy and trustworthy and never lie to us.
I think I speak for all FReepers when I say, “Pleas probe me if it keeps me safe. Nothing is more important than safety.”
“He would be far safer in the worlds largest democracy.”
He can always commit ‘suicide’.
Alternatively, he might be detained by the Chinese and taken back to Beijing for a little friendly chat.
The HK authorities could also directly rendition him back to the US, and I can see that happening as well.
“wow. very intelligent, articulate, insightful, and courageous man. 29 years old! I applaud his commitment to transparency here.”
He was working for our nation’s intelligence services. He leaked classified information. He’s a traitor, even if he thought he had good motives.
My country, right or wrong. Let her always be right, but my country regardless.
‘He would be far safer in the worlds largest democracy.
He imagines he's safe ~ for now ~ but he's not.
Plenty of people in China don't want their phone calls, emails, and other electronic communications tapped by anyone ~ not each other ~ not by us ~
The boy is too white to survive this. Easy target in fact.
