And so begins our annual 8th TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot. We are having a great time!
The Mom and crew are busy with family who stopped into town to attend the shoot and visit, so she asked me to get the thread started.

I only wish I could have gone on the Arizona too.
You can take a better photo of me at the shoot this year.
I’ve reduced my profile about 65 lbs. Not all of it after the shoot though, just a lot of it. By the next shoot I hope to be down at least 25 to 30 lbs more.
I’ve also become unemployed again. Reductions in the DoD budget so not so much would need to be borrowed from Saudi Arabia and China for Obamaphones and Food Stamps.

Gosh two for two on good pictures of me. Y’all are miracle workers with those cameras.
Many buffalo, bison actually, were taken with .45-70.. but it's Not Enough Gun for elephants, or real buffalo for that matter. The later would just get and angry and give you The Horn. Elephant might not notice. but if the did, they'd come stomp you to death. Either might die of blood loss or infection, but it wouldn't be quick nor in time to save you from them.
But it did kick like a mule, it's pretty light.
I'm an engineer, I talk with my hands. I can't draw worth a hoot, so I have to fall back on hand waving.. or math, and most folks don't want to go there at least not without pictures.
I do draw well enough to let me figure out what the math is/should be. But not well enough to help anyone else understand. :)
Then I'm glad you have been cooking or shooting most every time I've seen you.

Even our then not quite 16 y/o step niece was impressed, when we took her, and two of our Great Nieces who were our wards at the time.
She's 21 now and became a US Citizen, along with her mother, about a year ago.Never prouder of her, and even prouder of her mother, who is my sister in law, well technically my wife's sister in law.
That's at least a flogging offense, don't you think?

Good to hear you’re getting in shape. I could stand to lose a few pounds myself. My wife will soon be a certified personal trainer, so maybe she can get me into shape.
My husband had a permanent visa, but he finally became an American citizen about five years ago so he could vote. He is a staunch Conservative..
It is nice to hear that you and your family enjoyed The Alamo and its grounds as much as we did.
If it's wet, as October could be, I hope the Beast has high clearnce and 4WD. And good tires for the access road...er trail, or whatever it is, down the side of the dike into the riverbed. Of course if it's real wet, the range will be under the river. But that's not too likely that time of year.
I got my car stuck in a big mud puddle that had been well churned up before I encountered it. As usual the FReepers were great and got me out...AFTER the shooting and eating of course. In particular ... oh shoot.. senior moment.. who after we broke the winch on an SUV, used a "come along" to ratchet it out. One throw of the lever at a time.
You know we don’t need any lakes that big. We have piece of the Atlantic Ocean, you may have heard of it. The Gulf of Mexico. You can get 300 miles from shore in it. You can fish in it, boat on it, and even surf.. sometimes. It never gets quite so calm as Gitichigoomee. But the surfing makes up for that.
It is pretty shallow near shore and the shorelines are not steep, at least in Texas, but pretty much all around it. But it does get pretty deep in the middle. Deep enough that German subs would hide there during the daytime, in the early days of WWII. They’d move closer to shore to find targets, which was easy because most of ‘em would be going to/coming from Galveston or Corpus in Texas. The oil tankers and grain haulers at least.
You can't see their eyes glazing over. I could. :)
Not only that, but we can boat on the Gulf Coast year round.
