Gallup's U.S. Job Creation Index increased to 22 in May, the highest score for any month since April 2008.
The Job Creation Index is now much improved from the all-time monthly low of -5 recorded in February and April 2009.
The net job creation score is based on 37% of workers telling Gallup that their employer is hiring new people and expanding the size of its workforce, and 15% saying their company is letting people go and reducing the size of its workforce. The percentage "hiring" is the highest since August 2008 and the percentage "letting people go" is the lowest since March 2008.
Workers across many regions and in various groups are giving Gallup some of the best job creation reports in five years:
* Job creation in the East (20) and West (21) improved to the best levels seen since mid-2008.
* Net job creation also improved in the South (21) in May, but is not quite as high as it was in April 2012 (23), although it is still among the highest levels for the region on record.
* While job creation in the Midwest did not improve in May, it is the highest (22) for any region, as has been the case throughout this year and during much of 2012.
* Nongovernment employees continue to report job creation at their workplaces that is among the highest since Gallup began tracking job creation daily in 2008.
* Federal government workers' job creation reports continued to improve in May, following a collapse in March after the federal budget sequestration cuts went into effect. But, net job creation for this group remains in negative territory at -7 in May.

Exactly my point. Unemployment is at best a guess at the numbers of people who are not working.
Employment numbers are, in my opinion, a more accurate measure of the state of the economy.

I was just talking to a friend and we were noticing how many young couples with small children are moving back into their parents homes in our neighborhood. They certainly are not seeing any job improvement. Has anyone here seen any job improvement?
April 2008 was five months into a recession. May 2013 was four years into a recovery. This is LOL funny.
Anyone who has given up or is now timed out from being classified as unemployed are ignored in these polls. The real unemployment rate counting all real unemployed has to be close to 15% by now. These polls are only meaningful to Low Information Voters, e.g. DemoncRATs.
How many of the new jobs were full-time?

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 165,000 in April, while involuntary part-time employment increased by 278,000. If I understand the definitions used, that means we lost 113,000 full-time jobs in April. I don't have the corresponding May numbers, but they should be slightly worse. This fiasco is described by Obama's cheerleaders as the "Best in Five Years".
I saw we lost FT jobs in April so I was wondering if it was the same.
If I understand this correctly, the Sequester forced us to spend less money and companies seeing this are now starting to hire.
Will be funny to see if Obama pivots on this and now says the Sequester was his.
BLS should report that later this week.
