you forgot billions in foreign aid, grants to study the birth of teesee flys, a 1/2 million to try and understand why the US has no wild elephants in central park...etc,etc,etc,....Oh yea all the vacations the first family takes that end up when totaled into the multi-millions of dollars.....
Instead of government demanding more taxes, fines and fee, why not tell the citizens to protect themselves by purchasing a firearm?
Fact is, if someone want to kill you, the police will not be there to stop them.
Correct, AFIK. The people who settled out there by and large were very private, and wanted no Bible-thumper to interfere with each person's lifestyle and personally conceived morality by exposing it from the Sacred Desk. That's why their forebears and current migrants now have left the East, Midwest, and South. They just want to be left alone.
We support in Montana a missionary who has twice been deliberately burnt out of his church, and is expecting it again anytime. But he had grit, and the Lord behind him.
There's no guilt, and no shame out there, except to break your word. I suspect you'd find a lot of libertarian survival-of-the-fittest types out there, as you might expect the dispatcher in question to say: "Root, hawg! er die." The Northwest is surely just as ripe for the gospel as the most alien place on the planet, but they don't seem to recognize it -- yet.
I know I'm going to take some hits on this one, to which most of I will not answer. Support your missionaries out there, very particularly also to Utah, Idaho, and Montana.
BTW, it was the same way for the pioneers here in the East, before organized religion came in and the loners moved out. I'm a little like that myself--heritage.
It is worthwhile to listen to the whole thing - especially the dispatcher who hangs up on the caller after around 10 minutes into the tapes, and the general inane confusion and insanity and insensitivity of all of these county workers and the state police supervisor for the county. It’s pretty incredible. Listen - I grew up so deep in the country that the one time we called an ambulance they couldn’t find us - and there was no 911 back then where we were - but really, this is just a profile in deferred responsibility, passing the buck, 100% bureaucracy and 100% laziness. Naturally the shake-up will be that “the county / the department / the State needs more money.”
I just moved to Will county a couple of years ago. What this sheriff told you kinda worries me. Did he happen to tell you a reason WHY they won’t try and help protect the public?
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
Roger Gresse, an elderly man, from Zanesville, OH, was
going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left
the light on in the garden shed. Roger opened the back
door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were
people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked, "Is someone in your
house?"
He said "No," but some people are breaking into my
garden shed and stealing from me."
Then the police dispatcher said. "All patrols are busy.
You should lock your doors and an officer will be along
when one is available."
Roger said, "Okay."
He hung up the phone and counted to 30.
Then he phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there
were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you
don't have to worry about them now because I just shot
them," and he hung up.
Within five minutes, six police cars, a SWAT team, a
helicopter, two fire trucks, a paramedic, and an
ambulance showed up at the Gresse residence, and
caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the policemen said to Roger, "I thought you said
that you'd shot them!"
Roger said, "I thought you said there was nobody
available!"
The woman likely lived in the boonies and 45 miles from town. She needed self protection since the cops will never get there in time.

Not really correct re churches. Southern Oregon (where Josephine county is located) is practically bible belt. Northern Oregon may be what you are thinking of. There are two lines in Oregon, North and South & East & West. Southern and Eastern Oregon are very conservative & very Christian.
Which would have been cheaper than voting to triple her property taxes, to provide more police protection, not to mention that it would have been much more effective to have a gun.
Agreed. The 911 call is to establish motive and situation for the start of an investigation for what could become a justifiable homicide case. It's a real good bet that it will all be over before LEO gets to my house, one way or another.
At the time I moved out here, the area was unincorporated. The Will County Sheriff at the time allocated only two police officers to cover the entire township in which I live. The township spans some 36 square miles, and some 20,000 people at that time.
Two deputies to cover 36 square miles with 20.000 people isn’t a lot of police protection. The Sheriff at that time was gutsy enough to acknowledge that fact and wasn’t bashful about telling folks why it took his two deputies so long to respond whenever there was trouble.
In fact, up until we incorporated about eight years ago, it was impossible out here to get thrown in jail for drunk driving, unless you caused an accident. The reason for that was it would take one of the two deputies off the road for at least four hours to transport the drunk driver to Joliet, process all the paperwork, and get back on the road. If you were pulled over for drunk driving back then, the deputy took your car keys, cuffed you, ran your license and absent any outstanding warrants took you straight home without your car and handed you your keys at the front door.
I’ve been out here since April of 1992 and used to drag race put here before that. Some of the stuff one could get away with out here was incredible.
You must be further south than I am:) Though I’m sure it has built up quite a bit in the last 20 years. Not so rural anymore. We’re close to the DuPage line just inside Will. There was an incident where the police were called and after about 15 minutes I went outside and saw a squad car sitting down the block. Went up to him and asked what the hell is he doing idling houses away when there’s a domestic altercation they were called for help with? Said for all he/I know a woman could be getting beat up pretty bad while he twiddles his thumbs. He states he has to wait for back up and that could be awhile! Where I used to live you wouldn’t believe the ineptness of some on the force. Too long to go into right now. That was Villa Park.
Unincorporated Orland Township is just across the road from me, I can throw a rock from my front yard and it'll land in C(r)ook County.
Reality is, even though we're now incorporated into a village and pay for extra police protection from the county rather than incurring the expense of starting up our own police force, we only have 4 Sheriff's deputies on patrol here at any one point in time, covering 36 square miles and just over 28,000 people now.
We don't have the same Sheriff that we did back in 1992, however even the new Sheriff will tell you privately that they cannot protect you in the event of a crime. They're spread too thin out here. If you call 911 expecting to be rescued by a Sheriff's Deputy, think again.
Still best to have a big dog and a gun, which I do.
