“I will say that some 15 year old girls are probably as mature as an 18 year old guy.”

Your problem here is there is NO way of proving things one way or another. Of course every exploiter is going to claim that the exploited wanted it.

You can make the exploited want it. By exploiting them.

DO, there is a difference between a minor and an adult. If we are going to give minors adult rights then we have to expect them to handle adult responsibilities. We can’t have a jury spend months with every tryst to determine the nature of a relationship. It can’t be don.

As for the old days with young kids getting married, it can still be done with parental permission. If the kids are orphaned or abandoned or whatever well to me that is the equivalent of an emancipated minor. We already have laws to cover these things.

ALL attempts to change these laws are attempts by HOMOS to molest boys. Do not be fooled.

” “Dating” is NOT synonymous with sexual activity.”

It certainly should not be. Am I so out of it? If someone says that they are dating someone, am I supposed to think they are having sex????

“Individual differences exist but I speak with some experience on the subject, to wit: 4”

I am not saying that differences NEVER exist, between teens of different ages. I am only saying that the general observations that that often is true does not always amount to true in some cases.

There can be some 15 year old teens that seem as mature as an 18 year old relative of yours. There can be some 18 year old teens that seem as immature as a 15 year old relative of yours.

What matters in any case is not our general assumptions or even our general observations but the specifics in any case. That’s my point - to judge each case individually.

My point is that the “differences” are not “straight lines” but ranges, and while MOST are in the middle of the range, yes, but some are “below” the middle and some are “above” the middle; but what matters is not the general case but a specific case. The law, in trying to fit all cases in the same mold is sometimes forcing a round peg into a square hole just to satisfy the letter of the law, when, in a certain case doing so might defy the spirit of the law, because of the specifics of specific individuals.

My point is not to avoid prosecution when prosecution is deserved, but to avoid needless prosecution when the specifics of a case indicate there was no “guilty” party by the facts of the circumstances, only by the letter of the law.

I will say that some 15 year old girls are probably as mature as an 18 year old guy.

Your problem here is there is NO way of proving things one way or another. Of course every exploiter is going to claim that the exploited wanted it.  You can make the exploited want it, by exploiting them.

I'm not immune to your arguement here.  You're right.  At least to a degree you're right.   I'm certainly not trying to bolster the 'she wanted it' defense.  That defense offends me.  Of course if the two do develop a relationship and then have consentual sex, that's generaly how relationships start and develop for everyone.  It's not truly exploitive if the two people know each other and over time grow in that relationship, and particularly in a school setting.

You'll have to give me that.  I'll have to give you the older person, say twenty and fifteen as a given exploitation.  To consider an eighteen year old exploitive of a fifteen year old in a progressing relationship, you'd have to say any man is exploiting a woman if he entices her into a relationship.  I'm not conceding that.  I don't think you would either.

Let's say a seventeen year old kid meets a fifteen year old kid.  They talk, kid around, get to know each other and things progress.  They start having relations while he's in his mid seventeenth year.  This continues for six months, and his birthday rolls around.  It passes and he's eighteen and she's still fifteen.  Is he then a rapist if they continue their relationship?

Under your scenario about hard and fast rules, and juries who can't spend months figuring things out, it would seem so.  I'm not buying that for a second.

DO, there is a difference between a minor and an adult. If we are going to give minors adult rights then we have to expect them to handle adult responsibilities. We can’t have a jury spend months with every tryst to determine the nature of a relationship. It can’t be done.

I agree to an extent, but then reason has to be involved here too.  We can't just toss some guy because he developed a relationship with a girl a few years younger than himself.

I don't think the NAMBLA defense would work with you when it comes to exploiting children much younger than the adult.  It wouldn't for me.

As for the old days with young kids getting married, it can still be done with parental permission. If the kids are orphaned or abandoned or whatever well to me that is the equivalent of an emancipated minor. We already have laws to cover these things.\

Yes we do.  I think there's reasons for them, as you pointed out.  We're in agreement there.

ALL attempts to change these laws are attempts by HOMOS to molest boys. Do not be fooled.

I'm not being fooled for a minute when it comes to the NAMBLA agenda, believe me.  On the other hand, I don't want a young man's life ruined because he met a sweet young person a few years younger than he was.  I had a very sweet relationship with a girl younger than myself.  I loved her dearly.  We married had two beautiful children together and our relationship lasted nearly twenty years.

And yet ANOTHER thread full of apologists for statutory rape. I am beyond disgusted.

The 14 year old CHILD was RAPED according to law. Throw the book at the homosexual predator.

” We married “

I really think that is the solution, here.

If the 18 year old just has to have sex with her, he’s going to need to marry her. Then there is no statutory rape concern.

These laws are a very threatened important protection for our minor kids.

Personally I think they should have beaten the other girl to an inch of her life.

Thank you Persevero. I do want your kids protected. You could look at my view as wanting to make sure the 18 year old is protected too. I appreciate your take on it. Take care.

When I was 14, we never had friends who were 18 years old. The kids that older seemed like another age to us. Obviously, we knew many 18 y olds, visited their houses to see younger siblings, etc. But they were not close to us, and we did not hang out.

In most states, it is not a crime if the age difference is less than three years.

As I think back, my first time was between 9th and 10th grade, with girlfriend moving into 9th grade, who had just turned 14? This went close to three years? I guess we never would have hit any criminal issues? Not sure. However I was 18 a big part of my Senior year, and as a popular jock, I am certain I broke some laws here. Luckily everyone I broke the law with is my good friend on Facebook, they don’t seem too traumatized.

I still adore the first one, it wouldn’t shock me if we wound up together again someday... My current wife (dying) would approve, she doesn’t want me to grow old by myself and likes her too....

I don’t honestly know what the fix here is. You raise the age limit and prurient adults will jump in and take advantage. It’s more or less damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

I still do lament the 18 year old that meets a young girl 16 years of age and they fall in love. Going after them is just wrong IMO.

If you’ve got an 18 year old simply trying to score as many as he can bag, I’m a lot more sympathetic to going after the guy.

Sorry to hear about your wife, first of all. I’m glad you two have the type of relationship where you can talk about the future. I’d sure keep that to a minimum though considering the circumstances.

I’d try to keep her in the her and now, and marvel her at the depth of love you can rain down on her.

You’ll be in my thoughts. All the best, D1...
