On the basis of personal experience, I can say that the Burmese are extremely pleasant and friendly people, and are both honest and hard-working.

Given a choice to live next door to Burmese or Hispanics, I’d choose Burmese in a heartbeat and never regret it.

They are applying for the same jobs. They have the same skills./i>

Which is to say neither can speak English and neither have any skills. But all in all, I'll trade 10 welfare queens and gang bangers for 1 hard working immigrant.

I think that is what Clint Eastwood, in the movie Gran Torino, discovered about the Laotians - Hmong who lived next door to him.

Hmong. Yes, right. But they’re not, strictly speaking, Lao - they have settlements in Laos, Vietnam, and China, with scattered populations in Thailand, as well.

There are, in addition, more Hmong in Minnesota than anywhere else on the planet except Laos.

Pretty soon there will be “Burma Shave” signs all over the place again.

Yes, very good. But didn’t Burma Shave go out of business?

I haven’t seen that product anywhere for a long, long time.

According to Wikipedia, they were sold to Philip Morris in 1963 and the signs were discontinued.

I remember one stanza Burma Shave turned down as “too risque”:

Listen birds
These signs cost money
So roost a while
But don’t get funny

How times change.

Buddhist, who compose about ninety percent of the population.

Moslem Burmese are fairly rare, at three or four percent, max, and may be disregarded for all practical purposes.
