Blue Cross Blue Shield: Premiums will cost everyone more in 2014
Kingsport (TN) Times News ^ | May 4, 2013 | Hank Hayes

Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) is warning that its customers will face sticker shock with premiums next year because of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare.”

Many of the 2010 law’s key provisions kick in next year, including the requirement for all Americans to have health insurance.

BCBST, the state’s largest insurance provider covering more than 3 million Tennesseans, is projecting that individual policy holders will see average premium increases around 30 percent, while small group customers will pay about 10 percent more. Large employers will see a 3 to 5 percent spike, BCBST officials said.

Rich politicians are on the lobster and champaign plan...no extra cost. The rest of can be bankrupt and penniless, what does it matter anyway (Hillary should NEVER have said that). We are voters, however, and even if we can no longer afford medical insurance, we can vote the ba$&&^%$# out of office, one by one.

Next step should be cleaning up voting places and making sure fraud is punishable by long and mandatory prison sentences.

Voter fraud and intimidation, ballot stuffing and associated racketeering ought to be a capital offense.

Pelosi doesn’t know what’s a basic shopping mall directory.

She’s an idiot- have you ever listened to her?

No. She doesn’t know what’s in it because it does not pertain to her and her family.

Shock and awe....

For the low-information voters, that is. But since they are a significant part of the voter base, we are stuck with their flaccid reasoning powers, and we may only hope that the stark reality of the rising costs and diminishing services somehow stirs the beginnings of critical thinking.

Otherwise, it may be necessary to separate this territory once known as “the United States of America” into several autonomous republics, with the option to remove immediately to the regions most compatible with your personal beliefs.

Maybe I have been watching too much of “Revolution”.

I don't have BCBS but my health insurance has gone up 40% since Obama said “and your insurance premiums will not go up.”

This can’t be true!

Chief Justice Benedict Roberts ruled that ObamaCare is a tax and Obama has pledged too many times to count that he won’t raise taxes on anyone in any fashion making less than $250,000 a year.

The premium on our private Blue Cross plan (that we pay for 100%) has gone up around 50% since Obamacare became law.

I can’t tell the exact percentage because we have constantly been forced to increase the deductible and reduce coverage in order to keep it at a level we can afford.

So we are paying much, much more for much less coverage.

Rate of increase

2002 to 2003 17.98 pct
2003 to 2004 14.46 pct
2004 to 2005 17.75 pct
2005 to 2006 14.05 pct
2006 to 2007 22.39 pct
2007 to 2008 10.93 pct
2008 to 2009 22.26 pct
2009 to 2010 9.04 pct
2010 to 2011 20.63 pct

The quarterly premium is now 6 x what it was in 2001, when I was fortunate (finally) to get health insurance. (Years 2001 and 2012 not shown.)
