A good week thanks! Knocked off at 7:00 this evening and am now mellowing out with a nice Cabernet after a dinner of colossal Steamed Shrimp.

Where were you on Wednesday, May 4, 1977?

That’s easy. I was at my second Kentucky Derby Festival in beautiful Louisville with the US Navy Steel Band. We played a morning concert in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky State Fair and Exposition Center, had a youumy lunch at Ollie’s Trolly (Ollie Burgers and spicey fries), played an afternoon concert at Louisville Waterfront Park for our old pals the Blue Angels’ Air Show and then boarded The Belle Of Louisville for dinner and The Great Steamboat Race (we lost) followed by a moonlight concert and mint julips in the steamboat’s ballroom. After the river cruise about half of us hightailed over to the Kentucky Derby Jam in time to catch the last half of Charlie Daniel’s set and The Allman Brothers who closed the show. What a fine day!

Thelma Houston had been one of Jimmy Webb’s projects, but her work for Webb didn’t score, and neither did her work for Motown. She managed to get a hit when she put her career in the hands of the Philadelphia duo of Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble. It came in at #5 this week.

Dean didn’t work around the bar lines too much, which is why Sinatra said to him, “Dean, you have a beat like a cop.”

Looking for Jack is the title track from the 1st solo album by Colin Hay, released in 1987 after the demise of Men At Work.

Watching the crowd at a gig, he saw Jack Nicholson standing by the mixing desk. Colin walked over and told Jack what a big fan he was of his work. Jack replied, "I can't hear you!" Later in the green room, Jack walked in while Colin was talking to a few pretty girls and said, "I'm a big fan of yours, too," and walked out. Colin spent the next while looking over the girls' shoulders. One of them asked, "what are you looking for?" He replied "I'm looking for Jack." She responded with, "Everyone's always looking for Jack." With this statement, Colin realised that that was to be the title of the unfinished song he was writing. Over the years he continues to revisit this awesome song.

Remember that one well - then don't recall hearing from her afterwards for many years. A few years ago, my wife bought me the DVD "Roy Orbison - A Black and White Night." The female back-up was provided by Bonny Raitt, K.D. Lang and Jennifer Warnes. And they did a damn' good job of it!
