Two people are in custody following what police believe was an attempted murder on Monday night. The Yuma Police Department says they responded to the Desert Palms Mobile Park on West 28th Street after receiving a report of shots being fired.
The victim of the robbery stated that two male subjects had approached him as he stood in front of his trailer and demanded his money. The victim stated that one of the subjects had been armed with a handgun.
The victim had also been armed with a legally concealed handgun, and upon being threatened, the victim and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The victim struck one of the suspects during the exchange of gunfire, at which time the suspects fled the scene. The victim was not struck by the gunfire, and was not injured.
The suspect who was struck by gunfire was transported by his accomplices to the Yuma Regional Medical Center where was treated for a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was later flown to Phoenix for further treatment.
The two other accomplices in the incident were located by officers and arrested at Yuma Regional Medical Center. They are identified as 19-year-old Jesus Bernal-Rivas of Yuma, and 21-year-old Angel Estrada of Yuma. Both are charged with Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Assault.
The names of the victim and the suspect who were shot are not being released at this time.

You're right, DPMD, though on the famous "other hand," the leftist lunatics probably won't be very unhappy, because the story will remain local. No news is good news to socialist propagandists.
You do not need a concealed permit in the state of AZ to carry..either open or concealed.
So, anyone who thinks they need to relieve any person of his our her belongings in the state of AZ had better keep it in mind that there is a very good chance this person might be packing.

For those not familiar with Arizona Gun Laws, any concealed handgun is legally concealed, we don't have to get permission from the state to carry concealed.

To be completely fair, it is possible to carry a gun illegally in Arizona. One could be a convicted felon, for example.

Rivas is considered a flight risk and was on probation when he allegedly committed the offense.

” Arizona found a great way to stop the ineffective and wasteful buy back events. They simply created a state law forbidding the destruction of the collected firearms. Any firearms collected for any reason by state or local government agencies must be sold to law-abiding citizens.
Phoenix and Tucson can deal with crime by sending the tax money to schools, police agencies and foster parents. That might actually work to reduce crime far more effectively than these gun buy-back charades”

New Mexico Statutes 30-7-2. Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon. A. Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon consists of carrying a concealed loaded firearm or any other type of deadly weapon anywhere, except in the following cases:
(1) in the person's residence or on real property belonging to him as owner, lessee, tenant or licensee;
(2) in a private automobile or other private means of conveyance, for lawful protection of the person's or another's person or property;
(3) by a peace officer in accordance with the policies of his law enforcement agency who is certified pursuant to the Law Enforcement Training Act [29-7-1 NMSA 1978];
(4) by a peace officer in accordance with the policies of his law enforcement agency who is employed on a temporary basis by that agency and who has successfully completed a course of firearms instruction prescribed by the New Mexico law enforcement academy or provided by a certified firearms instructor who is employed on a permanent basis by a law enforcement agency; or
(5) by a person in possession of a valid concealed handgun license issued to him by the department of public safety pursuant to the provisions of the Concealed Handgun Carry Act [29-19-1 NMSA 1978].
B. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the carrying of any unloaded firearm .
C. Whoever commits unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon is guilty of a petty misdemeanor.
