Koch brothers want to make your newspaper their megaphone
L.A. Times ^ | 5/1/13 | David Horsey

Posted on 05/01/2013 9:02:18 AM PDT by Nachum

The people of Los Angeles would be up in arms if some out-of-town billionaires tried to buy the Dodgers and institute a rule that only right-handers could play on the team. Petitions would be signed, protests would be organized and politicians would rise up to condemn the sale. It would be nice if there were a similar outcry at the prospect of the Koch brothers buying the Los Angeles Times. After all, as exciting as it may be for a city to have a major league sports team, a good newspaper is a far more valuable asset.

The LA Times was once known for favoring conservative thought.

Nice to hear that it will be returning to its roots.

Since over 50% of the 'reporters' said they would quit if this happens, I hope they buy it today and see how quick these reporters quit. I mean, what other skills do they have? Collect information, spin it so it's the religious right's fault, and write the story and the editor fixes all the grammar and spelling errors. These guys aren't getting a job in IT or anything that requires brains like an auto mechanic.

Is Pennysaver still around? Maybe they can work there.

Half the staff would quit.

What an advantage for the Koch’s. The half you had to get rid of leave anyway without costing you a dime. That deal just got better by the tune of a few million dollars at least.

I didn’t know the Dodgers were all left-handed?

They’ll need a new staff anyway.

Ummmm...David. I think I can see the flaw in your logic.

Who is more popular; you or any one of the Dodgers? Really.

Conservatives shouldn’t be allowed to own newspapers, doncha know? Only the good, nice liberals should.

RE:"R U staff?"

I asked because I'm curious to know if you witnessed the in house awards meeting the author describes.

They are might that Obama might lose a megaphone or 2.

So apparently this nitwit imagines that the LA Times has a significant readership that actually cares what happens to it. That’s an amazing delusion.

The truly enjoyable part of this story is reading his fears and projections about what right-wing bias would lead to and recognizing that all of the bad stuff he expects has already been delivered by the leftist scum that has owned this rag for decades.

Another local plus for me is that The Hartford Courant is owned by the LA Times and it might actually become a readable newspaper again.

If all the righthanders pitched like Don Sutton and Don Drysdale, I think the Dodger fans wouldn't care if there were no lefthanders on the team.

If David Horsey were part of the "half of the staff" who left all the better. That would be like getting an incredibly great deal on a car only to find a winning lottery ticket in the glove box.

Years ago, when I lived in Seattle, I detested David Horsey. I never cared for his cartoons or editorials and he really angered me with his commentary on the local talking-heads news shows. I had forgotten about this little irritant.

Heck, the great World Series Dodger teams of the 70s were almost ALL right handers.

Lopes-Russell-R. Smith-Cey-Garvey-D. Baker-Monday-Yeager

All could bat righty except the great Rick Monday, who was injured as often as not.

Pitchers?

Hooten-Welch-Sutton-Rhoden-Hough, ALL righties

They had Tommy John, but let him go to the dark side. Doug Rau was sometimes a #4 or #5 man.

Okay, The fireman (Forster) was a lefty. ut that's pretty lean pickings all told.

It’s okay for “them” to have the megaphone but not others with opposing view points.

Hey, he said we could have an opposing viewpoint occasionally...on the editorial page!

The Koch boys won’t do it.

If they did, the papers would be no longer valued by the elite.
That is the real issue.

Oh, boo f***ing hoo.

Rich Progs buy anything they want and immediately start pumping out moral relativism willy-nilly. But, oh no, we can’t let Conservatives come in here and start changing things. Why, the first thing those backwards-assed white men will do is fire all the blacks and gays and cut all the women’s salaries by 30%. Then they’ll put a Bible verse at the top of every page or something and allow advertisements for gun shows! Horrors!

HEY, I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING...

Wasn’t there some kind of tape about Obama that the LA Times has been sitting on for 4 or 5 years now?

Oh yes, the video of Obama praising Rashid Khalidi.

If the Koch brothers buy the LA Times do they also get the tape?

So is the left pissed because the Koch brothers might buy the Tribune Corportation’s remaining newspapers? Or are they pissed because the value of the print media has fallen so far that the Koch’s can pick them all up for less than 1% or their corporation’s annual revenue?
