Let’s face it—on nearly every important issue, from gun control to immigration to gay marriage, red states are holding America back. Lee Siegel on why the South should get the hell out of the union.
Let’s not be fooled by all the bipartisan rhetoric that has been streaming out of the GOP since Romney’s self-destruction. Hundreds of thousands of petitioners in a handful of red states still want to secede? Well, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
A solid block of Southern states continues to refuse to expand Medicaid, thus squashing one of the linchpins of the president’s health-care reform. The South will likely be the last and most stubborn battleground in the fight for gay marriage. Gun control? The more the two sides seem to get cozier with each other, the faster gun-control legislation gets watered down—and more and more red states are passing laws making it legal to carry a concealed weapon. As for immigration, the red states seem to be relaxing their anti-immigrant fervor, but nothing approaching new legislation is even on the horizon.
The sad truth is that “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” can only be achieved at this point if the nation is split in half. Far from being fanciful or fanatical, the proponents of secession have a stronger grasp of political reality than just about anyone else. In fact, there are serious reasons why the North itself should take the lead in a secessionist movement.
Just think what America would look like without its mostly Southern states. (We could retain “America”: they could call themselves “Smith & Wesson” or “Coca-Cola” or something like that.) Universal health care. No guns. Strong unions. A humane minimum wage....

If I were still back in the US I would be all in favor of my great state of Tennessee bailing out of the USSA.
Fortunately, I have escaped what is now the Communist hellhole of Obozoland with no plans to return.
Laughable. People are leaving Siegel’s blue states because they are impending disasters. If he thinks the productive ones still left would stay in a hellhole like the blues, then he’s not thinking too far ahead. The exodus would hasten . . big time. And the welfare staters in red could “emigrate” legally or not, to the blues.
So keep up your phony act, Lee. You can’t live without us, and you know it as well as we do.

First. Before you even talk about all this other stuff.
I'm as serious as a heart attack.Let,NY,CA,MA,NJ,IL,etc issue all the EBT cards they wish.Let them annex all of Mexico as their newest state.Let them enact mandatory abortions for all white males and name the Religion of Pieces as the only "religion" to be tolerated.The South,parts of the Midwest and the Rocky Mountain area as well as Alaska will form a more perfect union.As much as I dislike heat and humidity I'll gladly go to NC or GA.
If you discounted Milwaukee and Madison the entire state of Wisconsin would probably sign up.

It’s pretty obvious that this country is going to collapse, as all once-great nations in history have done. There are plenty of signs that the end will not be long in coming—in fact, lately it looks a whole lot like ancient Rome come back to haunt us—so why not plan ahead?

The writer will find that the policies he champions will make “his country” poor as the proverbial church mouse. Sure, have public works but how are you going to pay for them? Oh, I know. Print money.

Southwestern North Carolina and far northern Georgia are surprisingly mild and temperate. Humidity I can’t help you with, it’s the south, lol, although we do get low humidity sometimes, from late fall through early spring.
At least we’d have the brains to seal our borders so all those refugees from blue states can’t come!
There are a lot of good folks in all sections of our country but it does seems that a majority of the social cesspools are found north of the Mason Dixon line.
