It is time for a dishwasher. My last dishwasher was replaced three times by the manufacturer before I ripped it out and started handwashing. time to go back to dishwashers and I cannot find a timed dishwasher, just ones that are ENERGY EFFIEICENT with sensors.
The biggest problem I had with the newer untimed dishwashers is that I would have to rinse the dishes instead of scraping them.
the second problem is that because I did not rinse them, they ran for six to eight hours becaus there was debris that the sensors picked up.
Lousy design.
I am looking for a good dishwasher, that can actually be effective and clean the dishes now that the EPA doesnt permit us to have phosphates. Or timed washes.
Any war stories? Most of the dishwasher reviews out there aree actually paid ad reviews placed by an agent of the manufacturer.
Forget consomer reports.

They don't rinse either. I have to run the washer through the cycle 3 times or else I get a rash from residual detergent. Yes, I know they have detergents specifically made for these washers, but they all have perfumes and dyes. Again...rash.
So much for energy and water saving.
The commericals sanatize, either through temp or chemicals. they are prewashed before entering the dishwasher.

Bingo! I use it in the clothes washer. It can be found in the paint department, used for preping siding. TSP “holds” minerals, food, whatever in solution. TSP is the magic that makes cleaning happen. It is an effective de greaser as well.
You can still buy the good dishwasher detergent with phosphates. I buy it by the case here:

I know what you mean - there are significant deposits of soap lining the sides of the washer after every load.
the answer is obvious ... all of your problems stemmed from not washing the dishes before using the dishwasher.

Some years ago we needed to replace the toilets that had been in the house since it had been built. My husband went up to Canada (we live in the Seattle area) to get the toilets. At that time, Canada still had the regular toilets; and, I don’t know if they still do as it has been a while. I have always figured that if we ever move, we take the toilets with us.
we thought our new dishwasher was a lemon too but found out it needed hot water right away to run a normal cycle, so we run the hot water at the sink till it’s hot....worked for us, good luck.
if your dish soap doesn’t have phosphates, just add a quarter teaspoon of Tri Sodium Phosphate per load.
I use All hypoallegenic, an I get it from Sam’s. You might give it a try. Also, I have a recipe using Borax, washing soda and soap that I want to try...you get the ingredients at Vermont’s Country Store or Mast General Store.
That is because your dishwasher is 23 years old. If I had held onto that model I would be a happy woman today.
Unfortuantly I upgraded and it was to a terrible world. There must be a heaven for good old appliances.
My question (and I am being serious), do you save any "energy" by using twice the time to do the same job?
There are actually several models that do not use sensor wash. They are the lower priced models.
Usually people only use one or two cycles, it’s important to get a unit that has a heating element in the bottom so the water gets heated and the dishes dry.
Also, you don’t need stainless steal inside the washer makes it cost more.
It’s important to not rinse the dishes, here’s why, the dishwasher cleaner you use has enzymes, without food particles or grease the enzymes attack the dishes and leave little scratches on them, look at your clear glasses.
You should be able to get a nice unit for under $550.00
I used to sell them.
