Harry Reid: Tea Party Like Anarchists, Govt. 'Inherently Good'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) believes the Tea Party is ideologically similar to anarchists and that government is "inherently good."

Speaking on the Senate floor on Tuesday, Reid said he was frustrated that, "We have a situation where this country has been driven by the Tea Party for the last number of years." He then insinuated Tea Partiers were like anarchists.

"When I was in school, I studied government and I learned about the anarchists. Now, they were different than the Tea Party because they were violent," Reid said. "But they were anarchists because they did not believe in government in any level and they acknowledged it."

Reid asserted that unlike the anarchists he learned about in school, the Tea Party "kind of hides that" by not acknowledging, he claimed, that they do not believe in any form of government.

If this is true, why doesn’t he move to officially get rid of the Constitution? If government is inherently good, limiting it must be evil, right?

Harry Reid believes that Grimm’s Fairy Tales is non-fiction too.

Anyone who believes that government is “inherently good” is either mentally ill, or evil. In Harry Reid’s case, it is pretty obvious he’s evil.

Harry Reid is yet another left-wing arsonist in a field of straw men.

Only 'anarchists' I've ever met were leftists.

Fortunately, our Founders did not share Harry Reid's infantile level of comprehension. Instead they knew that government, when untethered to fixed limits and enumerated powers, is inherently dangerous to liberty. The Constitution does not make government "good" or "bad". It makes it limited.

But Harry Reid is not merely stupid but also power-hungry, and does not wish to entertain any arguments as to why he and his fellow Statists cannot do whatever they want simply by making endless claims of "public interest", while littering the airwaves with scary straw men and false choices.

Appearently Harry has never read our founding fathers’
writings when they said, “Trust but verify.”

Reid shows his ignorance.

The Tea Party are nothing like anarchists. Tea Party believes in honesty, traditional values, good government and patriotism. Anarchists believe in violence and destruction against innocent targets.

Government is only good if it does good things. Government can be corrupt, wasteful and destructive.

Our Founding Fathers understood the importance of limiting government power. The great intellectuals like John Locke, Adam Smith, Edmund Burke and others also understood it. The Tea Party and conservatives also understand it.

Harry Reid doesn't understand it.

Power is always good when you’re the one wielding it.

It’s good to be the king, right Harry?

You can ask any tyrant in history whether they thought government was good, especially THEIR government, and they’ll all tell you it’s the bee’s knees.

Are there any journalists left on the planet?

The Tea Party are nothing like anarchists.

You know, that was my immediate reaction as well. But if you're coming from a mindset where government directs every action of your day from the toothpaste you use in the morning to the warm milk you drink before you go to bed (I HOPE it isn't raw) then the notion of human freedom has to look pretty anarchistic. That isn't the Tea Party's fault, it's the fault of the people who actually want to be mice running in a wheel.

A society is dead when its members are afraid of freedom. Ours is dying.

And very gullible, easily led ones at that. We’re still in Iraq and Afghanistan, when’s the next big anti-war rally? By the same token, anyone remember the No Nukes concerts back in the 80’s? Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Brown, Pat Benatar, a then up and coming Madonna and just about anyone who was someone performed to raise awareness about the looming nuclear holocaust because they saw Reagan as a doddering old man with his finger on the button. Where are they now that Iran and N Korea got nukes?

Hey Harry!

“Anarchy” is what you have when the president is ruling by executive orders, the AG won’t enforce the law, and congress sends up legislation that nobody has read!

government is "inherently good."

The founding fathers didn't think so. Even if he's making the point that the American form of government is "inherently good", then he needs to speak out whenever Barack Hussein Obama calls out congressmen and Supreme Court justices as "liars" and "wrong". There are THREE branches of government. He continually tries to circumvent the checks and balances to rule by executive order fiat.

After hearing a few of my rants, some listeners accusingly say “You’re a Conservative!”. I half expect them to hold up a cross.

I tell ‘em, “No, I’m a liberal.” After the deer-in-headlights kicks in, I expand. “Ackshully, I’m a ‘Liberal Anarchist’. There are some things that are the governments job, but most of what they do isn’t.”

Gets ‘em every time.

A government can only be inherently good when goodness inheres in government. Can’t happen while it is engaged in the mass slaughter of innocents.

When the RNC had the convention in Minneapolis a few years back, they had an interview with some “anarchists” that were planning a protest. The spokesman stated that their greatest challenge was organization and coordination. Derp.

i never believed Govt was “inherently good”... although some government is necessary and sometimes people can do some good things through their government as the vehicle for proper (constitutional) organized social efforts

however,
government is certainly not “inherently good” ... at best, government is just a reflection of the citizens who create it

and, alas, a reflection of the liars and thieves (and ego-maniacal jerks) who seem to be so strongly attracted into it

such as, many would say, Senator Reid (you know, the guy who won’t pass a budget so we would have a chance of finding out where the last $6 Trillion of extra spending went)
