Feinstein cited the Vice President Joe Biden’s promotion of the use of a shotgun for self-defense.

“[Y]ou could use a 12-gauge shotgun and have a good defensive effect and there’s the element of surprise,” she added.

Irrespective of what this corrupt crook says I happen to think that in urban areas a shotgun is very effective home defense weapon.

Oh man, I read that wrong. 00 buck is in fact more likely to over penetrate in some cases. Sigh.

Incidentally, I agree that this is neither here nor there with respect to the larger argument: It’s none of this hag’s business to make MY home defense choices for US.

Well, given my druthers, I'd go with one of these:

The Kel-Tec KSG.

Capacity: 14 rounds in 2 onboard magazines, and one locked and loaded. . .

Click the above pic for the link.

It is the KelTek KSG.

It is real, but good luck finding one.

The KSG weighs 6.9 lbs. and is as compact as legally possible with a 26.1” overall length and an 18.5” cylinder bore barrel. Even with this compact size, the internal dual tube magazines hold an impressive 12 rounds of 12 gauge 3” rounds in total (6 per tube). It can also reliably shoot shells as short as 1 3/4” up to the 3”

I would LOVE to have an AA-12, but so far as I know, there’s no civilian semi-auto version produced. And that is one SERIOUSLY pimped-out Saiga 12, and it doesn’t even have ALL the tacti-cool accessories. . .

I’ve seen plenty of them on Gunbroker. You just have to be willing to play $1800 or more for a weapon with a list price of $1149. . .

I think I know why they want us to only use shotguns.

Shotguns are typically ineffective against body armor and you can be easily killed by an armored assailant (militarized jackboot) who knows you only have shotguns.

Which is why I use slugs in my home-defense shotgun. . . if nothing else, I just broke several ribs. . .

I don’t know if she still has it, but at one time Fineswine held a concealed-carry permit.

Yup. And I don't think she used it to conceal a shotgun.

Uh...yeah. I'm going to take tactical advice from an upper-class twit who happens to be a gun control fanatic. Right.

Now, I'm all in favor of the element of surprise in this sort of engagement but if you're being attacked by terrorists you probably don't have a lot of options regarding stalking the buggers. Chances are you're standing and fighting because you can't run. "Cowboys and terrorists" makes for great fantasy fare but I don't see a lot of real-world tactical scenarios working out that way. I wish it were otherwise - the good guys would win more if it were.

That said, a shotgun makes a jolly close-range defensive weapon, especially if you'll lose the bird-shot silliness and recognize that if you have to shoot at someone you're not really going to be overly worried about overpenetration - the first object is to put them down, hard, so that they don't get up. It's a weapon, for Pete's sake, not a warning. And most (but not all) self-defense scenarios are within its effective range.

That said, they're a pain to tote and slower than a pistol to present. And practice sufficient to make me even marginally tactically proficient tends to make me sore as hell. And no, you can't assume that shot spread makes up for poor marksmanship, because it doesn't. But I'd sure rather have one than want one.

I like shotguns.
An article written by a coroner a few months back noted that even kevlar body armor won’t help survivability against a shotgun blast. There will be sufficient internal organ damage from blunt force impact that unless the wounded gets medical attention with 20 or 30 minutes, he will expire from the impact injuries.

DiFi, can I have that in semiauto with rifled barrel and a scope? Didn’t think so, mind your own business.
