Bombing Suspect Was 'Very American,' Neighbor Says

By SHUSHANNAH WALSHE April 21, 2013 The narrow street here that is home to the Tsarnaev family looks like many others in this city just across the river from Boston, but neighbors were still reeling from the news that members of the family who lived next door could be suspected of being behind the Boston marathon bombings.

As soon as it became clear early Friday morning that the suspects were Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, police swarmed the street. They focused on a brown house here where the Tsarnaevs lived in an apartment on the third floor.

Just more than 24 hours later, there were no police in sight -- just neighbors still stunned that they could live so close to the alleged perpetrators.

Matthew Stuber, 29, who lives next door to the Tsarnaev family, described the younger Tsarnaev as a "sweetheart, a young, cute kid" who was "normal" and "very American.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, and certainly many people who are not "classicly beautiful" (or "cute", etc.) can be seen as "cute" or "beautiful", just by virtue of their demeanor and personality...

The thing is, the size and shape of his nose is not the problem here!! This young man could easily have been seen by some to be "cute", and a "real sweetheart", until he decided to murder innocent people.

Obviously, he fooled his neighbors and friends, and possibly something went radically wrong with him even just in the last year or two. I'm glad he was captured alive, there's potentially a lot to be learned about these enemies. If ever there was an occasion to waterboard, this would be it, IMHO!!

I don’t doubt that he conducted himself as a “nice kid.” Think about it: if you are part of a “sleeper cell” biding your time before carrying out an assignment, you’re going to try your best to not raise eyebrows or otherwise call attention to yourself. You’re going to do what you can to convince people you are just a nice, quiet guy living in the neighborhood. I’m sure they’re told by their handlers to conduct themselves in this manner until it’s time to strike.
