A state online sales tax fix may leapfrog its way right to the Senate floor.

Majority Leader Harry Reid began the process late Tuesday that would allow the bill, known as the Marketplace Fairness Act, to come before the full chamber without first going through the Senate Finance Committee — whose leaders largely dislike the proposal.

A friend wants me to move (back) to Maryland. Told her I can’t as it would cost me at least 10% of my yearly income just to pay Maryland taxes.

I agree about control; so why should I with my own money be forced to contribute more to the the governments private checking account?

Its really tough on the retired who are not rich nor poor enough to get breaks.

Property taxes are typically $5K to 10K per year for a typical middle class house which goes for about $400-500K.
At least NYC gives those over 65 a property tax break for the obvious reason that they dont normally have kids in the public schools cost $$$, but here it doesnt matter to them.

More people here=higher taxes for us the past 10 years or so.

Clearly, our representatives feel they don’t have enough money to purchase the votes they need to stay in power.

I moved out of MD when I joined the Army 30 years ago. Of course, since I entered the service from MD I had to continue to pay MD taxes even though I had NOTHING in the state. I was a 17yo kid.

Finally after several years of paying MD taxes I sent them a letter asking them why I had to pay since I had no ties to the State.

They had the gall to tell me that even though I owned no property in MD I was now paying the State back for all those years of services they provided to me when I was growing up.

I kid you not.

I assume this is because you kept your legal residency as Maryland.
Maryland has lots to do drawing more and more people and lots of federal $$$$ but retiring here is a loser.

Leave it up to the Dems to cook up some phoney stats about how internet sales are done overwhelmingly by the “rich”. Just keep going to the well until there is nothing left but toxic sludge.

Its true if you define ‘the rich’ as those with full time jobs who pay Federal taxes, ~ the 53%

I kept it only long enough to be able to legally establish residence in the eyes of the Army in another state. Only then would they let me change my state of residence
