Agency investigating Boston Marathon still has no permanent director

The federal agency charged with investigating two explosions at the Boston Marathon does not have a head, due to Senate disagreements over gun control.

President Obama nominated B. Todd Jones to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives after a Jan. 16 press conference about gun violence.

But the Senate has not scheduled a confirmation hearing for Jones, who is currently serving as interim director while also working as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota.

At least 35 explosives specialists, bomb-sniffing dogs and other staffers with the ATF and its Boston field division are working with local and federal law enforcement to determine how the explosions occurred, standard procedure in the wake of any suspicious activity, the agency reported.

But the agency has not had a permanent director since 2006, when a provision in the PATRIOT Act reauthorization required the position to be confirmed by the Senate.

The DNC run Senate supports the invasion of America
and the murder of American people as America
bleeds to death, naked, from its greed.

I, for one, certainly don't want this liberal lawyer in charge of the ATF, ever. Whoever in the Senate that is blocking his formal appointment should be applauded.

He will only direct his agency to find some white guy who they can tie to white supremacy, Tea Party, or other conservative millieu. If the evidence doesn't fit, they will make it so.

The ATF under him is political and nothing more that Obama and Holder's lap dog.

The Senate is controlled by the Democrats.

Aye, but a Senator has the sole power to table a nomination and keep it from a floor vote IIRC.

Absent a “permanent Director” the agency is ineffective?

Sounds like a good reason to completely eliminate said agency to me.

Typical government bureaucracy. Nobody is empowered to do anything.

Yet, somehow I think they continue to do their jobs.

Obama will get right on top of this.

Why would the ATF And not the FBI be in charge of this investigation?

If the ATF had a permanent director what would they be doing differently today?

“Why would the ATF And not the FBI be in charge of this investigation?”

Everything in the posted article is a lie. This has nothing to do with the ATF. The FBI is the lead agency in the Boston bombing, just like they always are in any other bombing or terrorist act.
