One of the videos posted here shows the explosion coming from the right and a runner crumpling to the ground as if he was hit with shrapnel or something.
That guy that fell looked very old. The sonic blast may have knocked him a little and his legs just buckled.

The JFK library is about 4 miles from downtown Boston.

The JFK library could be just an accident, but it’s a high profile location in a time window with the other explosions (multiple...if there are more than one, the possibility of there being more is heightened).

As other posters have said, if they were using cell phones, they might not have been able to get through to the other devices to set them off. Could be, but then again I doubt they'd have intended too much time between all the bombs they'd planned to set off. Looks like they'd have had plans to get them all off close together.
All is speculation now.
