Washington (CNN) - The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to overcome a Republican-led filibuster against tougher gun laws, clearing the way for a major congressional debate on a package of proposals sought by President Barack Obama in the aftermath of the Connecticut school massacre.
The procedural vote followed a breakthrough by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania,

How are you on the move here to appoint senators per legislative session ?
They aren’t RINOs. They are the Republican party. You are kidding yourself if you don’t think the party leadership is like minded.
Just wait on the latest from Rubio and his “Gang of....” buddies.
Republicans are a bigger problem in my mind. Everyone knows where the Dems stand. The GOP thrives on deceiving its supporters.
Maybe now if we don’t split conservative vote here as usual
If Van Hillary stays home ....the perennial spoiler
boner is indeed nutless. but that is exactly why he wouldn't dare oppose the vocal and dedicated conservative core of his caucus to NOT oppose the thing.
And we all know that guns are available. Our Fast & Furious proved it absolutely and got OUR people killed, too.
It's the house members you want to get on the record. How many have spoken up?
Reminder: The Dems own the Senate. They will do whatever Obama says...like good little sheep.
I have written before that the name of any recent government bill is a lie and accomplishes the exact opposite of what is stated. Check out the name of this bill.
yep. and the more confiscatory the senate bill is, the more votes it will lose in the house, and the more obvious the reasoning for opposing it becomes.
AND, it becomes a great campaign issue for our senate candidates when we try to retake the senate in the midterms.
Going nowhere in the house... Just like Obama care?
Sounds like 14 Repubs get A-list invites to the DC cocktail circuit. Congrats Pat Toomey for joining the RINO/Dem elites.
Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013. yikes.
How many of those 30 Reps are RINOs? How many can be turned with the right amount of flattery and bribery for their districts? How many of them are from blue-state liberal gun-grabbing areas?
You may be right, I’m not disputing that. I’m simply saying that this illegal infringement on the right to keep and bear arms (see tagline) should never have gotten to this point. And if one firewall—40 Republicans in the Senate—fails, there’s nothing to stop the others—the House and ultimately the Supreme Court—from failing too. You can’t rely on them simply because of the “R” after their name. Today proved that.
"You'd like to THINK that, wouldn't you?"
“It isnt really the worst thing that could happen. Now they all have to go on the record and we get our list of who to vote out of office in 2014. Plus this is going nowhere in the House.”
Sounds a lot like what I kept hearing on ObamaCare. You assume a whole lot.
Exactly, to both of you.
They have no right to vote on the altering the Second Amendment..... period!
Just like 0bamacare?
Care for another double of our top shelf whiskey, Mr. RINO? Would you like your melted butter warmed up, Mrs. RINO? It will make your lobster taste so much better and that 'hard' gun ban vote so much easier to cast.
And both of Georgia’s boys... Without us watching/emailing/calling them on every @*+^ issue, neither one can be trusted for a second - and even with all of that, they will STILL do what serves them best at every opportunity.
Dear Lord, give us strength.
