BAMIYAN, Afghanistan – New Zealand has withdrawn its small contingent of troops from Afghanistan.

The South Pacific nation had stationed about 145 soldiers in central Bamiyan province since 2003. Ten of its soldiers died during the conflict.

The withdrawal came about five months earlier than initially planned. The U.S. and its allies plan to withdraw all remaining troops by the end of 2014.

In a ceremony Thursday, New Zealand lowered its flag and opened a memorial to commemorate both the New Zealand troops and Afghan security forces who died in the province.

About 95 Afghan interpreters and their family members who worked with the Kiwis will this month move to New Zealand, where they have been granted residency.

When the US pulls out next year, I wonder how many Afghanis and their families will seek "residency" here? The whole Afghani police force?

Heads will roll.

Coming to a locale near you.

Is there any good reason for the US to wait until next year to pull out? Will the death and maiming of more Americans change things if Afghanistan or make the world safer?

He wants to get past the midterms before the thing completely collapses.

Killing our children for his own political expediency.

Exactly. He did the same thing for his own reelection.

For that matter, his Afghanistan policy has been a matter of political expediency since he was candidate Obama.

Afghanistan was the “good war” that he claimed to support just so the republicans couldn’t accuse him of being a pussy on the campaign trail.

So, he has been sacrificing soldiers to his political fortunes since even before His Ascension

The Karzai regime will not last 6 months after the US pulls out. If we haven’t been able to get a stable government in 13 years, it will never happen.

Karzai won’t last a week. They’ll find him — or perhaps pieces of him — swinging from a tree one morning.

New Zealand has lost nearly 10% of the troops they sent. Gotta wonder what it would be like if we had lost that many. We’re there to protect Karzi’s brother’s poppy trade. I had two son-in-laws serve there. One got the hell blown out of him but managed to survive. Zero is so fond of killing people with drones, let’s get our kids out of there and he can play “Zero drone wars” all he wants. Macho man he is! If George had done that the outcry from the MSM would have been unbelievable.
