~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina

Shaw Air Force Base is the home of the United States Air Force 20th Fighter Wing (20 FW). It is also home to Headquarters, Ninth Air Force (9 AF) and Headquarters, United States Central Command Air Forces (USCENTAF). The mission of the 20 FW is to provide, project, and sustain combat-ready air forces. It is the Air Force's largest combat F-16 wing.

Today's 20th Fighter Wing can trace its lineage to 28 July 1947, when the 20th Fighter Wing, began at Shaw Field, South Carolina, as a Ninth Air Force unit. Components of the new fighter wing included the 20th Maintenance and Supply Group, the 20th Airdrome Group, and the 20th Station Medical Group (later Tactical Hospital).

 The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations.

The Fighting Falcon is a dogfighter with numerous innovations including a frameless, bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while under high g-forces, and reclined seat to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot.

It was also the first fighter aircraft deliberately built to sustain 9-g turns. It has a thrust-to-weight ratio greater than one, providing enough power to climb and accelerate vertically – if necessary.

We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon.

We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

Sgt. Tristan M Wade, USA, 573rd Clearance Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, KIA Afghanistan 22Mar2013

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

"Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar. As the Will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be." (1 Maccabees 3:58–60)

God Of Our Fathers

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace!
We who remain hold you in high honor.
Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct;
We who remain keep this place sacred.
Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades;
We who remain keep the watch.
Rest, fallen brother, among these who answered the Nation’s call;
We who remain press the fight forward in your name.
Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden;
We who remain have taken up the torch.
Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

If only people would call and cancel the night before...I could bunch up the other lessons and get home to Linda-The-Dog hours earlier. But when they do things at the last minute like that, i have to drive around boca for hours with nothing to do.

Oh well, at least i have a job! LOL.

A good day, thanks! The daffodils are starting to come on strong. On another front, I start work with a new agency this Wednesday.

Our high today was in the high 60's - beautiful day, although a bit windy.

Hi Laplata and Welcome. Just to let you know practically my whole family served in Vietnam and Iraq. My dad flew Corsairs off a bird farm, my uncle was a Huey pilot and two brothers served in Iraq; one was a chopper pilot the other a weapons officer. Anyway, Welcome!!

Good evening, lauren...*HUGS*

A wild and wooly Monday! But I made it. Finally got through all the emails from when I was gone.

Headed home now. My sis is here from California for a few days.

Are you getting a break from work? Maybe normal hours?
