Doctor Raoul died Saturday of a rare form of cancer. He was 58.
Raoul's family contacted us this morning to see if they could find out more about his activities as an activist.
This is such a shock. His family is looking for photos and stories about him.
He is and always will be a Free Republic icon.
He kind of fell off the face of the earth about 2 or 3 years ago now. All attempts we made to reach him failed.
If you have photos please contact me. Please feel free to post stories and I will make sure the family sees this thread.
Doc was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.
RIP Doctor Raoul.
Prayers up. He was one of the good guys.
Wow! This is quite a shock to me also. Gonna miss ya Doc. Another great Freeper and patriot leaving us WAY too soon.
So sorry to hear about Dr. Raoul. I will keep his family in my prayers. My memory could be wrong but I believe it was Dr. Raoul who responded to me when I inquired about a bus which was leaving from Philadelphia for the Gathering of Eagles down in D.C. I got up at 4 in the morning so I could leave early only to discover that my husband had gotten up early to check my car. It sat out in the driveway all night blocking the garage door—we only have a one-car garage. He told me it was totally encased in ice and there was no possible way we could get it thawed out in time for me to drive down to Philly! My heart was broken. I e-mailed Dr. Raoul to explain why I hadn’t shown up. If only we’d left it out in the street I could have taken my husband’s car. I fretted over that the entire day, knowing I was missing an awesome gathering.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
This is a real shock.
I have quite a few photos of him.
Tell me how to get them to you.
RIP Raoul. ‘Pod.
God bless him and his family. They will be in my prayers.I met Doc at a Freep in Philly at a Hillary book signing.I went with my daughter and there were a few Freepers from the area there plus a radio personality who interviewed Doc later. There lots of cameramen and I was interviewed.Never saw the witch she went in the back way.Doc was nice-he gave us signs and he had a loud speaker.People were laughing as they walked by and making dirty Clinton jokes.Forgot my camera.Talked to him in freepmail and he gave me good advise and it rolled just the way he said.We became friends and then he left.I thought it was to stay hidden and didn’t question it.I do remember Hillary saying a devil was following her all across the U.S.Doc and I laughed about that.It was him.
A FReeper extraordinaire. Prayers for Jesus’ comfort and love for his family.
That was Bob Kerrey.
RIP to a classic freeper, he has been missed on FR. Prayers for his family.
I just had an old friend pass on...of pancreatic cancer...he was 58 too.
I included that video as part of the Inaugural Ball video I did in 2004 for FR.
It was great.
Awful news! He was one of a kind. Prayers to his family and friends for comfort.
I had the privilege of meeting Doctor Raoul with the DC Chapter once upon a time. Busy but fun weekend. I still have my DC Chapter pin.
I remember him fondly and well. God be with his family...as he is with God.
Should be able to find pictures of him on Walter Reed and Olney threads.
RIP, thanks for the pretzels.
RIP Doctor Raoul.
Thanx Doc, we'll meet again.
After-Action Report of DC FReep of Hillary:
He was always a class act.
Prayers for his family. He will be missed.
Yep, still full of whizz and vinegar ;-).
Starting to feel that protesting urge again. I can’t BELIEVE what has happened to my country!
Sad to hear. I actually gasped and said “no!”. Prayers for his family and friends.
Sad indeed! RIP
Godspeed to one of the best among us.
I think it's a combination of lysdexia and sometimers merging into a new malady.
I call it ol fartiness .. except I still have a lot of my Boston accent and in English it's ol fahtiniss
I’m very sorry to hear this. I met him at a Freeper Christmas party here in NYC some years ago. Really nice guy. I remember that day fondly.
RIP. Prayers for him and his family.
Sad news, indeed. May others be inspired to follow his footsteps.
Kristinn just let me know Doc’s passing. Doctor Raoul was an FR icon. He was truly one of a kind. He is missed.
Who can forget the this classic announcement the Doc would say outside the exit of the Clinton Whitehouse with his megaphone?
“Ladies and Gentleman, the Whitehouse has made an announcement. Buddy the Dog is missing. In case you can’t tell the difference between Buddy and Bill Clinton, one will hump your leg, the other is a chocolate lab!”
Always got hysterical laughter from the exiting tourists.
Ouch. RIP Doctor. Met him once when you (Abner) were flying one of your balloons at the Balloon Festival in Goshen, CT. He was very nice to my kids (as were all FReepers who were there).
Thanks for the ping. Doctor Raoul was the guy in the devil suit that Hillary! complained about on the Jay Leno program during her senatorial run. Doc would wear the devil suit to protests and carry a sign saying “Bill Clinton married my sister.”
I had an exchange with him by email within the last year or two. I need to look it up. For that I will need to write a webcrawler program.
Raoul was everywhere! We didn’t know how he did it all and manage to get enough sleep. He was also generous to a fault. He went to several balloon events with us and we considered him part of our regular crew.
He would show up at the office with pizza and little toys or candy. He always had something.
I hear ya.
Bad back and arthritis makes for a crawling FReeper sometimes.
We still need you. Boston accent and all ;-)
I will miss you.
Very sad news. I remember Dr. Raoul. R.I.P.
LOL! I remember that.
Also, when we FReeped the Democratic “Unity” dinner when Lurch was nominated:
“There is a two drink minimum. Everyone has to buy Ted Kennedy two drinks!”
I hope all is well with you.
R.I.P. Doctor Raoul.
RIP Dr. R.
Thanks, I’m doing great.
Classic Doctor Raoul. In front of the White House at a protest and at every Clinton protest thereafter—Doc’s “Cops Cheer” group saying in unison a la over a cop’s bullhorn:
We have you surrounded
Drop the cigar
Step away from the intern
And come out with your pants up!
