The major point is, they were messing with the high school football team. That will get you hurt in a lot of small towns. After the good factory jobs disapeared, high school football is all that they’ve got left. That and the monthly EBT re-up.

I grew up near Steubenville and played for a rival high school a few miles away. I can tell you that, even in the early 80s when there were still a lot of jobs at the mills, high school football was crazy. When we played (Steubenville HS) Big Red, always at their stadium, there would be 10k people there. We'd have to dress in our own locker room and ride the bus with our pads and helmets on because people would throw rocks at us on our way to and from the game. Mays's father was our QB when I was a freshman. My parents always said that if you can say anything nice about someone, don't say anything.
