Buenos Aires, Argentina, Oct 1, 2009 / 09:01 pm (CNA).- The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, has called for an ethical response to solve the problem of social debt, saying that, not only do terrorism, repression and murder violate human rights, but also extreme poverty and the “unjust economic structures that give rise to great inequalities.”

The crucial part of the article follows...the POPE is not a socialist--he thinks governments that foster dependence are wrong! Check this excerpt from the article:

"Cardinal Bergoglio said the challenge to eradicate poverty could not be truthfully met as long as the poor continue to be dependents of the State. The government and other organizations should instead work to create the social conditions that will promote and protect the rights of the poor and enable them to be the builders of their own future, he explained."

We DO have LIMITED true poverty in America, but NOT to the extent the Progressives tout....parasitic generational government-dependency is a way of life for father-absent-and-unidentified inner city tribes. Appalacia, for example, and in other rural areas, there is poverty in limited amounts, but those people tend to be proud, God-fearing, WORKING-types, who TRY to pull themselves up with help, and want to find a way upward. They do NOT think others should provide for their every need, nor do they want EBT's to go buying drugs, tattoos, bling, Aire Jordans, Lotto Tickets, Plasma TV's, etc.

BIG DIFFERENCE

Tricky language, and note that nothing is really said about individualism.

The Communist Manifesto promises something similar:
In place of the old bourgeois society with its classes and class antagonisms, we shall have an association in which the free development of each is the condition for the free development of all.
The ultimate authority is the Bible, though:
For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

When I was in Buenos Aires I was struck by the poverty. There was a begger who couldn't stand - no legs or something as I recall - and there he was in the middle of the affluent shopping street (Florida St as I recall). A pitiful sight - along with the slums on the outskirts of the city. They don't seem to have much of a safety net.

I loved Argentina and read recently at one time during the last century they were more prosperous than the US - that is before the socialists took over. However, there is socialism in Holland and the Scandinavian countries and for whatever reasons they seem able to handle it. Maybe because the people stayed industrious.

Wonder if we'll ever recover from our socialist POTUS?

I found this.. “unjust economic structures that give rise to great inequalities.” disturbing.. I guess it’s all in the interpretation.

You have to remember that socialists in Argentina are like the ones in this country, they HATE freedom and capitalism and want to stamp it out. Sure in some places they might have realized that they need capitalism to fund their socialism, but its rare

Sure the Commie Manifesto makes a similar promise, but without the means, making it a cynical lie at best. It’s like promising to paint a house white, when all they have is black paint.

That’s not quite the case here. And even rugged individualists aren’t completely uncaring about “society” though differing with those of other political stripe about the means of addressing it.

And it’s true you’d expect such “global concern” from a church that has viewed its mission as bettering the world, not just saving sinners. And one could argue that becoming known for bettering the world would make one more attractive as a voice for the message of saving sinners. The devil is definitely in the details, and so can God be.

Dinesh DeSouza was explaining zero’s world view at CPAC - very interesting. The gist of it seemed to be that zero, like his father, believes that all wealth is stolen by business owners from those whom they employ (if I got that right). So this is why the father zero never knew thought 100% tax rates were justified and why Obama wants to raise taxes because in his little brain “its fair”. Of course he also thinks it’s fair for him and lard ass to live like King Louie and Marie Antoinette.

It’s just bizarre that this guy got elected not once but TWICE! No wonder he thinks he’s chosen - he’s getting away with murder in plain sight.

None of this is hyperbole. It’s truly stunning.

The media has a lot to do with this, and the schools which work against the development of reasoning skills.

But at bottom, this is spiritual blindness.

The Americans and this wave of immigrants who came to be free, work and be sucessful (middle class) will decide the future of America.

Do they want to build a ghetto of “free stuff”, violent race tribes, barely surviving, enslaved and oppressed; bringing the whole nation down with them or do they want to do what the American-Americans did before them and be independent and free?

We’ll see. We should not even have to worry about it with the constitutional Republic and it’s individual rights construction, but with banksters, globalism, and the domestic terror war, the constitutional rule of law is pretty much dead now. American politicans are beginning to resemble the kind of corrupt people who rule in Africa and South America.

We should have a slogan in Spanish: “If it starts to look and feel like home in America, we’re doing something wrong!” ; )

Well said. And you should have the ability to say it without being labeled an extremist.

They sure do. Give the churches and the people an unfettered way and they will take care of the masses. 0bama is taking away the power of the people to take care of each other.

The 17th Amendment destroyed our Constitutional Republic by destroying the balance the Founding Fathers created.

When the members of the US Senate are as beholden to or more beholden to national interests than to State Legislatures and subject to the a popular vote manipulated by the media every six years, there's no way around the US Senate becoming the forth branch government it's become; the Federal Advocacy Branch. That's the Branch not in the Constitution that exists to actively expand the power of the Executive Branch and resist all attempts to control the Executive Branch the House of Representatives may make.
