Feds Swarm Metra Train After Detecting Nuclear Risk
CBS 2 Chicago ^ | 3/16/2013 | Dave Savini

(CBS) — It was stunning for those who watched Thursday night as federal agents investigated a possible nuclear threat at Chicago’s Ogilvie Transportation Center.

CBS 2′s photojournalist Lana Hinshaw-Klann happened to be at the scene and used a cell-phone camera to record agents in action. Reporter Dave Savini looks into what agents were looking for and what they found.

Sources say the agents were members of the elite TSA VIPR team on the 5:04pm Union Pacific West line. They were carrying hand-held nuclear-detection devices that picked up a reading.

Isn’t public transportation wonderful?

I am surprised the VIPR team didn’t know this man had a medical procedure with nuclear isotopes. I am sure Obamacare allows them access to his medical records. Somebody in government must have had to approve his screening.

We are looking into why the chain of command didn’t pass this information along to TSA.

There’s an Elite TSA? They’re 500lb instead of the standard 400lb package? And more oily? Bright red Obamapones?

Little did he know a nuclear stress test he had at a hospital earlier in the day had set off silent alarms and sent security scurrying.

Why does this fail to surprise me in the slightest?

I’m not sure I want any part of a test that causes me to emit radio isotopes hours later...

Just for fun, he should have told them that he’d stopped by Nuke Shack and picked up a few grams of plutonium for his kids birthday party...you just know those TSA VIPR guys are a fun-loving bunch....

Perhaps they were a shipment of smoke detectors, or orange colored plates, or granite or a few guys with brachytherapy prostate treatments.

As the posters on the CBS site noted, isn’t it strange that this is the first time in 9 years anybody had an isotope test and got on the train? And coincidentally a news reporter was there, the guy who had the test was a lawyer, and he had nothing but praise for the TSA. Either they missed all the hundreds of other folks who had the same procedure, or they needed a PR event. Given the press was there I suspect the latter.

My uncle had the same procedure, the scans do save lives. It just creeps me out to be injected with radioactive material.

There was a story mentioned here a few years ago about a heart patient who underwent some sort of nuclear medicine procedure and was actually detected by cop driving down the street who had some sort of radiological detector in his car.

The cop ended-up pulling him over because of the alert registered by the device.
