For while in one direction from the mosque, the view of barren, rocky mountains shimmering in the desert sunlight could place Masjid-e-Tawheed in any number of locations in the Islamic world, a couple of miles in the opposite direction lies what one would imagine to be the worst place in the world for an even halfway-strict Muslim – something, indeed, not unlike hell.
Masjid-e-Tawheed is a 10-minute drive from Las Vegas Boulevard, the famous Strip – undisputed world capital of gambling, fornication, adultery, prostitution, immodesty, licentiousness, drinking, gluttony, vanity, ostentation and not a little taking God's name in vain when visitors' luck runs out in the gambling halls. The sheer amount of sin, as measured by any religion, is unfeasibly high in Las Vegas; for Muslims, it is off the scale.
Yet a flick through the Yellow Pages remarkably turns up four mosques. Masjid-e-Tawheed, the newest, set up just two years ago, is the only one that extends an invitation to discover Las Vegas's hidden Muslim life in a 10,000-strong community so unlikely that even visiting Muslims are astonished to find it exists.

Three weeks after 9/11 I was working in Tyler, TX and as I was waiting for a flight to DFW from Tyler on my way home and I heard my first Indian, Cowboy and Muslim joke. (well, it was funny because it was true.)
That’s a WRONG NUMBER for the number of Jews in America. It’s almost 7 million in the USA. You should probably correct that title line!
The figure for the number of Muslims is about right, though.
I have friends who are contract international pilots and have flown mooslims on the Hajj and other events.
Once the plane door closes, many mooslims are no longer mooslims; they take off their sheets and become swingers, dressed in new levis, expensively beaded tops, etc. They splurge on alcohol and act like the ugliest of ugly Americans. But, once they are about to land back in their own country, they become very strict mooslims once again, ready to crucify anyone who is not acting just exactly right!

My wife worked for Eastern and told me the exact same thing.
I’d also always thought there were about as many Jews in America as in Israel. I looked it up and at the most conservative figure I could find, there are 5.3 m Jews here and 6.1 m in Israel.
About six million Jews in Israel. What a tempting number for certain horrid beliefs and tempting for the deathcult itself.
The 2.3 million is the Guardian’s mistake, not the poster’s. And I have no idea where the Guardian got that number, and neither do they. Such is the state of journalism these days.
When did Moslems become Muslims? And it is insulting to say Moslem, akin to using the outdated term Negro? Nobody says Negro anymore.
There are slightly more Jews in America than in Israel. The Israeli “population count” also includes a bit over one million Arabs and Muslims as Israeli citizens. And the latest numbers for Jews in America (just within a year ago) show it approaching 7 million.
Also, some of those figures which are lower (which you may have seen) are variances from being an older count and/or a count that is more strict on their “interpretation” on “who is a Jew” and that lowers the US figure.
In Israel you can reject the religion of Judaism and be an atheist and you’re still counted as a Jew. Some counting in the USA wouldn’t put them in the population count here.
Anyway, that’s how you get all those variances.
