Gunmakers fire back at Big Brother by pulling firearms from police, paychecks in gun-control states

In a protest against new gun laws, more than 100 firearms dealers say they will stop selling guns to government and law enforcement officials in New York and other states unless those same firearms are also available to average citizens.

It’s part of a backlash from the industry to new gun controls, and it follows major firearms companies, such as Beretta and Magpul, that have threatened to bolt Maryland and Colorado, respectively, if those states enact legislation to restrict military-style semiautomatic weapons or high-capacity ammunition magazines.

In early February, Texas-based LaRue Tactical changed its policy to “limit all sales to what law-abiding citizens residing in their districts can purchase or possess” because it did not want to risk triggering lawsuits with new gun laws either passed or pending.

“If you write the law, you live under the law, no special category of people just because you’re a government employee,” said Sean Sorrentino, a gun-rights advocate who keeps a tally at ncgunblog.com of companies that are adopting those kinds of policies.

This is the most push back I have seen, ever. I think people are finally realizing just how serious this is.

The number is adding up more every day, sometimes by the hour!!

Total Companies: 117 (As of 3-5-13)

You are so very correct, “I think people are finally realizing just how serious this is.”

If they do not, have them check out the Ammo shops.

While I agree with what these companies are doing; I do not think many of them are selling their products to government agencies and/or police anyway. I am sure there are many companies that would love to manufacturer just for the government. I am sure there are some right now that only manufacture weapons for government and police use only. Who would turn down a multi million dollar contract. Lets see if any of the big boys like Glock, Winchester, Sig Sauer, etc jump in before we get excited that this will make a difference.

It’s also a sign that cops aren’t reading. They’re still sitting comfy, thinking “we’re cops, you’re not, so up yours.”

This isn’t happening just because it’s a business decision. This is happening because cops and their political hack bosses have crossed the rubicon of public opinion.

Cops used to (NB the past tense) be able to count on support from the right-of-center, gun-owning fraternity. They used to be able to count on this segment of society being on “their side” when it came time to talk about review of police conduct, LEO hiring, benefits, etc. The idea that so many companies involved in the firearms, gear, accessories and other markets would tell cops “Nope. No more double standard. You get nothing from us if law abiding citizens can’t buy it” was utterly implausible even just 10 years ago. The speed with which this is snowballing, along with the cancellation of such a large outdoors show as the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show... is really a sign for those who can read it that “this time is different.”

Cops used to be able to consider the right and gun owners their political allies. No longer. They’ve pissed in the fountain of public opinion on this one, and I, for one, am happy to see gun owners wake up and realize that law enforcement agencies and employees are *not* our friends. They’re the single biggest threat to civil liberties in this country. Not the standing military, as the Founders feared. Cops and “law enforcement” agencies like DHS, et al, are the standing army that the Founders never envisioned.

Gun owners in Connecticut,Boycott any firearms and Ammo from companies that fail to Support our rights under the Second Amendment in the event that Malloy win his battle to block the sale and possession of Sporting weapons in Connecticut.

Also Nullify any charges brought against any citizen of Connecticut who is charged with the possession of those weapons and magazines. There will be trials and some of us will be on juries.

If Sig, Glock, S&W, and Beretta will sign on, it will REALLY put the pressure on them.

Cops ARE a standing military today. Equipment, training, tactics are all military, not peace officer.

But what is sooo interesting about this, I surmise that most gun/ammo-related companies lean to the right. For those that do not, being flushed out into the open should result in a boon to those who have publicly taken a position on this crap. Lefty companies should be heavily (negatively) impacted after the govey contracts are fulfilled as the public hopefully will send business away from those scumbag lefties.

If Sig, Glock, S&W, and Beretta will sign on, it will REALLY put the pressure on them.

Of those, only Smith & Wesson is a major domestic manufacturer. Sure, the others have significant investments here, but only S&W is the name in that group that shouts out "American".

If that company would like to forever bury the Clinton-era agreement that tarnished its name, now is the time.
