Health industry pushes GOP states toward Obamacare [Republican assent explained, simply]
Washington Examiner ^ | 3-4-13 | Tim Carney

Posted on 03/04/2013 5:55:46 AM PST by Dysart

Excerpt: Comb through the campaign finance disclosures of most Idaho state senators and you'll see gifts from drugmakers (GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer), insurers (Blue Cross of Idaho and PacificSource Health Plans) and industry groups (Idaho Hospital Association, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, and the Idaho Health Care Association). All these companies benefit from a state-run exchange...

Pearce thinks this industry push helped persuade Republicans to overcome their general opposition to Obamacare and big government....

What do the companies stand to gain? Insurers and providers both benefit from the federal subsidies that come with a state exchange. Insurers also get protection from competition...

Republicans tend to drop their opposition to big government when big business pushes them hard enough. We've seen it in Washington: The two biggest expansions of government under President George W. Bush were the 2008 Wall Street bailout and the 2004 expansion of Medicare to cover prescription drugs -- both of which had firm business support.

Obama always had the hospitals and drugmakers on his side in passing Obamacare through Congress. Now these industries are pushing the law through state capitals, too.

The hushed nexus between GOP and the crony capitalism model explains why Obamacare made it this far and will be implemented despite noisy but fading proclamations to the contrary. Now, to reinforce this insult to liberty, readers; and in keeping with our full-blown cronyism and ruling class privileges remember connected groups have been granted a waiver, or are among the entrenched political elite class, because Obamacare just isn't good enough for them. Nope.

A substantial amount of that coverage will be directly or indirectly funded by...you, citizen. Or, Obamacare is for suckas.

The healthcare industry wants the cash from Obama’s stash (i.e. America’s ATM - working people).

The health insurance industry is digging its own grave. I stand by my prediction we’ll have single payer in this country by the end of the decade.

More fuel for the fire of an eventual Communist Revolution.

By the time it comes the people will be so angry at and revolted by those claiming the title of “capitalist” the
agitators likely won’t even have to fire a shot.

Single payer is the ultimate goal, which is looming in less than 10 years, assuming no economic collapse in the interim.

The GOP elite has decided if they can’t beat Obama, they’ll join him. Watch for the trickle to turn into a flood. Leaks have sprung in the anti-Obama Dam in this country and its weakening. Every one downstream is unaware of the flood that is awaiting them.

Are you still as optimistic in 2013 as your 2011 article’s tone suggested? I think we have learned that the judicial system is no longer much of a check on the other two branches.

No, I am not. I always feared crony capitalist maneuverings as the utlimate threat - and that's why I celebrated Vinson's ruling. As you observed, it appears not to have stopped the alligator from eating us.

Big Business rarely advocates for Small Government.

Small businessmen as a rule are conservatives. Big businessmen as a rule are corporatist/big government types.

Caveat emptor.
