There is a reason they call it the "History/Hitler" Channel.

So far in the book of Genesis ...

1. No mention of Ishamel being a wild ass of a man raising his hand against all other nations (a kotow to Islam).

2. The story of Lot, Sodom, and the 2 angels. It was presented from the revisionist homosexualist perspective, i.e., the sin of Sodom was inhospitality, not homosexual sex with the 2 angels.

Will watch some more, but certainly looks like the producers chose to take their script from The Queen James Bible, 2012.

Yeah, but does Roma Downey agree with that agenda...so far The Bible is pretty good.

The producers definitely blocked out the butt boys of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Bad on em.

Hopefully, the story will pick up from there.

plus they only mentioned Jacob and Easau. Thought they would have a scene or 2 on them since Jacob become Israel.

Didn't see this thread, so I started one. Admins can kill that thread.

Quality production so far, but with non-insignificant errors.

Abram and Sari had their names changed to Abraham and Sarah later. This part of the story begins with the Call to Abram to leave his father's land, and already they use their latter names.

Sodom was depicted as evil, but no hint as to the sin the city was known for.

To Isaac, Abraham said, "God will provide 'FOR HIMSELF' a sacrifice". These two words were left out and this looses the important allusion to God's Sacrifice = His Son, His Only Son.

In Gen 22, it says Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice. In this production, Abraham and Isaac both carry the wood - again missing the allusion to the future Sacrifice by God - ie Isaac carrying the wood as laetr Christ would carry the tree.

It was rather clear that the inhabitants had turned away from God and the show so far has stayed with scripture. Sending Ishmael into the desert should surely get some people thinking. I’m sure each of us would have included different aspects and done things a little differently but it had to have been a daunting task to decide what to include and how to structure the show to both keep peoples attention and stay true to scripture at the same time. Overall I think they are doing a good job.

So far, it’s fantastic. The goal is to get people inspired, interested, and get them to pick up a bible themselves. They can read it themselves.

I can almost understand why they would avoid emphasizing the homosexual sin of Sodom here. If you want to raise the ire of the all-powerful “gay” lobby and get the rest of your series possibly banned or blocked before it even gets started, get ‘em P.O.’d right off the bat. We’ll see how it goes after this.

"How do you know? That comes later."

The story of the patriarch Joseph comes in Genesis before the story of Moses which begins in Exodus. You may be thinking of Joseph in the New Testament.

"Ninja angel oh give me a break."

I've long been fascinated by angels, and believe they've been, and continue to be sent to intervene in both sweeping historical events and in the lives of ordinary people far more often than we might think.

While I don't give them the full force of Holy writ, two of the most credible contemporary stories of what might be described as angelic intervention involved characters with the appearance of a German shepherd and Jimi Hendrix. I suspect that angels take on the appearance of whatever God needs them to.

I may have made a mistake but anytime the “History Channel” does a program in which there is the chance for political correctness, they always go for the PC version. therefore I don’t want to get irritated so have quit watching those type shows.

They do some good shows when it is simply history.

Right, humanly speaking, there can be no Exodus, which it did cover, without Genesis ending with Joseph’s body in a coffin in Egypt.

It was the average entertainment...I thought many liberties taken to tell a plain story.
Sarah was way too young. Ishmael never taunted Sarah and issac. The bible doesn’t tell of Moses learning he was adopted....way too much made up stuff.
It was a little worse that I hoped for. I won’t watch the rest...

It says in Exodus that Moses went out to be with his brethren. This would indicate that he was fully aware of his Israeli roots. Much of his first 40 years is not known, and anything we do know comes from extra Biblical soruces and Islamic sources.

I suspect the writers and producers have a limited amount of time to go from Genesis to The New Testament. I don't think Sodom was trivialized as such and the writers are trying to make this viewable for family. Parents can explain Sodom.

This movie like many including"Jesus of Nazareth, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Ten Commandments, and one of my favorites "Gospel Road" will not cover all bases nor can they in time constraints. They also didn't show Lot or Noah getting drunk.

Still it may be perhaps enough to get people thinking. I'd say the best of this series is yet to be seen. A movie I don't expect to be word for word nor exact. For example I don't think Joshua was born when the actual Exodus began or if he was he wasn't of the age of accountability. The generation that rebelled against GOD in the wilderness did not see The Promised Land.

If you want accuracy 100% The bible is the only place and truth comes Spirit Lead. But we also have to remember many of the early converts to Christianity were not saved by someone reading written scripture but rather by word of mouth accounts of witnesses. Scrolls were few and far between. Yet The Word Of GOD in truth will remain intact.

Ishmael was not the progenitor of the Arab peoples.

Some forget Abraham had several sons later after Sarah's death through another legitimate marriage besides Isaac. But The Bible as well as the movie did say Isaac would be the one through which GOD's Covenant would be fullfilled through Sarah. Abraham went on after Isaac and had several more sons. Genesis 25 explains

1Now Abraham married again. Keturah was his new wife, 2and she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. 3Jokshan’s two sons were Sheba and Dedan. Dedan’s descendants were the Asshurites, Letushites, and Leummites. 4Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. These were all descendants of Abraham through Keturah. 5Abraham left everything he owned to his son Isaac. 6But before he died, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them off to the east, away from Isaac. 7Abraham lived for 175 years, 8and he died at a ripe old age, joining his ancestors in death. 9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite. 10This was the field Abraham had purchased from the Hittites, where he had buried his wife Sarah. 11After Abraham’s death, God poured out rich blessings on Isaac, who settled near Beer-lahairoi in the Negev.

I agree with your remarks, and laud both the production team and the History Channel for daring to make the presentation.

Some people here will probably criticize the New Testament episodes for not using real nails during the Crucifixion scene.

I’m taping this and will watch it tomorrow; it’s on, but I’ve been distracted with work and other obligations.

All I know (as a huge “Touched by an Angel” fan) is Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett are faithful Christians, and given that they are involved, I think it will be excellent.

They can’t fit in everything in the Bible into a mini-series. I think it will be inspiring and quite moving.

Just as Mel Gibson’s movie was. When I saw it, I cried—and met elderly people who had seen it over and over. I bought it and watch it every Easter season. My son (17) is probably old enough to watch it, though I would never have my 13 year-old daughter do so.

It seems no one can make anything religious-oriented without being criticized.

Julie
