FOOD giants Birds Eye, Taco Bell and caterers Brakes all confirmed today that horsemeat has been found in their beef products.
BIRDS EYE confirmed two products withdrawn as a precaution last week have tested positive: a spaghetti bolognese and beef lasagne all made in Belgium.
US-owned TACO BELL has had to withdraw ground beef from its three Mexican-themed diners in the UK and nine in Spain.
The meat was used in its tacos, burritos, gorditas, chalupas and Nachos.
A spokesman admitted the chain knew LAST WEEK that there was a problem and withdrew the meat.
But it only decided to go public when the Food Standards Agency revealed the positive test today.
The suspect meat came from Europe, the spokesman said.
Ten tests on the products returned results of more than one per cent horsemeat, the agency said, and all have been withdrawn from sale.
Taco Bell has two restaurants in Essex and one in Manchester.
BRAKES BROTHERS which supplies schools and workplace eateries also confirmed horse had been found in its spicy minced beef skewers, lasagnes and a line of frozen burgers.
At the same time MCDONALDS said all products on its fast-food menus were completely FREE from horse.
Taco Bell is owned by YUM BRANDS - which also runs Pizza Hut and KFC.
Its website boasts that the chain uses only high quality ingredients and 100 per cent premium beef.
This is seasoned with our signature recipe.
In a statement the chain said: We were very disappointed to learn that some batches of ground beef supplied to us tested positive for horsemeat.
The tests are the latest blow for a food industry reeling from the Horsegate scandal - which erupted on January 15.
Parts is pieces parts........
SOYLENT GREEN is TRIGGER!!!
Second, Taco Bell admits upfront their beef is not actually beef, because they label their products as "beefy", ie beef-ish,beef-like. Here, have a beefy burrito. What's in it? Well, its beefy. This is so when they get taken to court, they can honestly say they never specifically told you you were getting a beef burrito.
Well, at least three legs...
I just hope they put them in a feedlot long enough to flush any nasty crap outta their systems :^0
What’s wrong with eating horse meat?
I’d draw the line at whoresmeat.
After a few more years of the Obama economy, we will wish we had some horsemeat!
Laz would hit it.
Mostly I would say that the horse has been more romanticized film and TV than the cow or pig.
Horses have certainly been made pets more than cows or pigs.
Also up until the mid 20th century the horse was much more valuable than the cow or pig because of the need for its ability to pull wagons and plows.
The French do eat horse but I believe that it is a more expensive meat. There is no health reason that I know of related to eating horse meat so really do not see the need for all of the fuss except for the meat not being as advertized.
That’s a whores of a different color...........
Nothing as long as the consumer is told in ADVANCE on the package........
Pony baloney please.
PLUS, veterinary drugs that are not allowed to be in beef and other meats could and possibly are in horsemeats........
Can’t wait for the new Chick fil A commercials. They can add horses saying to “Eat more Chikn.”
In the Marine Corps, our slang term for bologna was ‘Horse C-ck”..........rhymes with ‘clock’..........
Actually, those hot dogs are beef bung, lips and tallow. Ummmmmm.....
