All,

I got this in an email From Wilson Combat. For those unfamiliar with them, Wilson Combat is a fine manufacturer of firearms and firearms components.

" Wilson Combat Announces Anti-Gun States, No-Sale Policy

Effective: February 28, 2013

Wilson Combat will no longer provide any products or services to any State Government imposing legislation that infringes on the second amendment rights of its law abiding citizens. This includes any Law Enforcement Department, Law Enforcement Officers, or any State Government Entity or Employee of such an entity. This also applies to any local municipality imposing such infringements.

States currently included in our No-Sale Policy are:

California Hawaii Maryland Massachusetts New Jersey New York Washington D.C. The City of Chicago, Illinois

Wilson Combat will in NO way support the government of these states or their anti-gun agenda that only limits the rights of law-abiding citizens. Wilson Combat will continue to supply any product and/or service they can legally sell in these states to all non-government affiliated citizens.

Ryan Wilson, Vice President"

Hold on a second. I’m not sure what everyone is so happy about. These companies are jockeying for a public relations hit. Have any of you tried to purchase ammunition recently? There’s none to be found. Every online purveyor of ammunition is out of stock on every imaginable caliber and in every quantity, 20 50 100 or 1000 rounds. That goes just for the bullets for reloaders as well as for the factory loads ready to shoot. There’s only two explanations for this scary turn of events. There are millions of hoarders who have snapped up every round at great personal expense—or else the government has bought out all of the manufacturers’ stocks. Some of the sites are indicating they expect shipments in July (that’s five months away) but no sooner. Don’t be misled when you go to these sites, it looks like ammo is available but when you go to select the quantity the screen shows everything out of stock. America is in trouble. If you can’t buy ammo or do your reloading what good are your weapons? A lot can happen in five months, no?

How many departments outfit their officers with Wilson Combat custom 1911s?

I applaude Wilson Combat’s gesture, but I’m pretty sure they won’t actually lose much revenue over the decision.

Wilson Combat isn’t the only one doing this.

Just looked at their web site.

If you own an AR and don’t have a LULA for it, they have the lowest price for it I have ever seen. $20.95.

It’s a little hard to find, so...

Ammo is available. I've bought at local gunshows and CTD. Link for 556, in stock.

It’s almost time to avoid products made by gun manufacturers in States like New York (Kimber, Remington) Massachusetts (S&W) Illinois (Springfield) etc.

It really is time for these manufacturers to start looking to relocate. I cannot understand why they stay in such high tax, anti-gun, pro union locales.

Both. But, IMO more the former, based on personal observations.

What might be a useful indicator is the scarcity of 22 LR. I can't imagine the government buying up that caliber. I hear a lot say they have anywhere from 5k to 15k rounds stashed. Also, reports of LE having the same difficulties as we would indicate to me that civilians are doing their share of the hoarding. Which, also in my opinion is a good thing. Personally, I'd like the law abiding portion of our citizenry to be armed to the teeth, and the despots in the state & federal governments to be well aware of it.

Can't be too rich, too thin, or own too many firearms or too much ammo.

It's a lot of both...

Check your local supplier daily. Ammo is trickling in and being snatched up pretty quickly.

I picked up some 9MM along with some powder primers and front ends for .223 when every place else was wiped out. And at normal prices.

You just have to be persistent and able to grab it when you find it.

Supply will loosen up soon enough.

I’m a new shooter with a brand new, beautiful Glock 19 and I need some serious range time. Can I put reloads through it for target practice? Need some suggestions, I’m very new to this and although the choices are fewer, I’m still baffled when it comes to looking for ammo online for range use.

These guys get, I’m guessing, 40% of their income from governments.

Guessing again but Wilson, maybe 4%?

Maybe another S&W boycott is in order. Sig, Glock, and HK are foreign companies with domestic factories, much more to lose.

"What might be a useful indicator is the scarcity of 22 LR. I can't imagine the government buying up that caliber."

Interesting side note: The next time you see a photo of an M1 series Abrams tank, take a look at the gun mantlet (where the main gun meets the turret). To the side of the main gun is the smokebox for the coax machine gun. Directly above the main gun there is a flat metal bracket with a couple holes drilled in it.

Although that bracket has a number of uses, one of the primary design functions was so that where tank crews had limited range facilities, an M2 HB or an M16 could be mounted there, with a trigger actuator wired into the gunner's controls inside the turret, and the smaller weapon could be traversed, elevated and depressed just like the main gun, allowing the gunner to practice engagements from inside the turret using his primary and auxiliary sights on regular rifle ranges.

Where ranges were even more limited, one could put a .22LR adapter in the M16, and for this purpose the military purchased .22LR tracer ammo.

Nowadays, Conduct Of Fire Trainers (COFTs) and other simulators make the whole practice somewhat superflous if not entirely unnecessary, but at least for some time, the US Army Armor Branch was the proponent for, and consumer of at least a little bit of pretty neat .22LR tracer ammo :-)

$1.46 a round is outrageous.

Reloads through Glocks are fine — but *only* if you use plated bullets. Lead, reportedly, will foul the barrel, increase pressure, and cause “ka-booms!” I can’t confirm this from personal experience, as I use only plated bullets for the Glocks and have never had an issue after many thousands of rounds.
