More advice from Joe Biden: 'Just fire the shotgun through the door'
Washington Examiner ^ | February 27, 2013 | Michal Conger

In an interview with Field & Stream magazine on Monday, Vice President Joe Biden once again touted shotguns as the best weapon for self-defense, offering advice similar to the questionable instructions he gave during a Facebook town hall last week.

During that interview, Biden explained his suggestion to his wife Jill for handling an intruder.

“If there’s ever a problem,” Biden said he told his wife, “just walk out on the balcony here— walk out, put that double barrel shot gun and fire two blasts outside the house.”

The problem with Biden’s advice is that it would empty the shotgun and possibly get the shooter in trouble with the law.

Undaunted, Biden gave similar advice in his interview with the hunting and fishing magazine.

Field & Stream asked the Vice President whether so-called assault rifles and high-capacity clips, which the administration wants banned, should be allowed for self-defense and target practice.

Well, the way in which we measure it is—I think most scholars would say—is that as long as you have a weapon sufficient to be able to provide your self-defense,” Biden said. “I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, “Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there’s the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself.”

I said, “Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.” Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semiautomatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that’s true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you. Now, granted, you can come back and say, “Well, a machine gun could do a better job of protecting me.” No one’s arguing we should make machine guns legal.

Last week I purchased a burger at a fast food restaurant for $1.58. The counter girl took
my $ 2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it
to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on
her register.

I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she
hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the
transaction to her, she stood there and cried.

Why do I tell you this? Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:

1. Teaching Math In 1950s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the
price. What is his profit?

2. Teaching Math In 1960s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the
price, or $80. What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math In1970s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make
a profit?

4. Teaching Math In 1980s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his
profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

5. Teaching Math In 1990s

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares
nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so
he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living?

Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and
squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no
wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it’s ok. )

6. Teaching Math In 2009

Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la producciones es $80.
Cuanto dinero ha hecho?

7. Teaching Math In 2013

Who cares, just steal the lumber from your rich neighbor’s property. He won’t have a gun
to stop you, and it’s OK anyway cuz it’s redistributing
the wealth.

I hear ya, friend...

Here’s another one:

Can he REALLY be THAT stupid, or is it just a condescending “gee-whiz, down home folksy good ol’ boy” act to make it look like HE has all the common sense, and we’re all just bumpkims suffering from TFS (Too F**ing Stoooopid) Syndrome?

If so, he’s a master actor at it. He pulled the same sh*t during the debate with Paul Ryan - a guy who should have just out and out called him a buffoon and a liar right on the stage.

If we had a working media, this clown would be laughed out of office. Or better yet, never have been elected to any public office.

I don’t mean to be critical or making trouble but what you’re using isn’t accurate. IMO its important to be accurate especially when discussing firearms and self defense.

.223 Remington isn’t Nato, 5.56 is NATA standard round with the main difference being the chamber pressure the rifles can handle. 5.56 NATO ammunition (60k CUP) shouldn’t be used in a rifle chambered for .223 (50k CUP).

Regardless the energy numbers are highly dependent on the ammunition.

The .223 round will have in the neighborhood of 2800 to 3200 fps and 1300 ftlbs at the muuzzle. The 5.56 NATO round will have slightly more, again depending on the specific ammunition being tested. A 12 ga 2 3/4” shell with 00 will have around 1500 ft lbs at 10 yds.

So there isn’t a huge difference in energy between the two calibers at distances encountered in the home. The only real difference is the 12ga fires 8-12 .32 caliber pellets at a time depending on the shell size. Also, since the 5.56/.223 firearm is rifled it has a longer effective range.

In MD, somebody has just to just be over the property line and make me ‘feel threatened’.

:)

Biden is no dummy

he was educated by the DHS that shotguns are for shooting down ducks and AR's are for shooting down his drones

And kill you neighbor’s visiting drunken brother, who is at the wrong front door.

My theory is that nobody employed in a tyrannical part of the government could ever go home again.
