Kim Stassel - Wallace asks about whether it will happen. She says very likely because obama won’t deal with entitlements. Dem’s only solution is tax hikes....Republicans aren’t interested.

Why didn't they solve this during the "Fiscal Cliff" negotiations? Obama had agreed to an adjustement in the Cost of Living increase for Social Security, and the Republicans gave away the tax increase for incomes over $450K, raised the SS payroll tax on everybody, and agreed to Billions for an unemployment "benefits" extension (again).

The Fiscal Cliff = Taxes + Sequester

They dealt with taxes, and only delayed the Sequestration cuts, and we are right back into "crisis" mode again. Boehner walked away from the negotiations, pursued this ill advised "Plan B" that he couldn't even get Republicans to support, and then everyone just gave up.

Says there is some latitude in how it’s implemented.

I don't know what these politicos mean by that. How does the Pentagon manage what is now says is a 13% across the board meat ax to its budget 1/2 way through the fiscal year, and they cannot touch military pay, and they cannot change most procurement contracts?

I'll tell you how. They slash Operations and Maintenance to the bone.

But don't worry everybody, according to Sen Rand "No Money for the Joooos in Israel" Paul, he can "live with it." That's mighty nice of him.

Says obama/administartion is making it as painful as possible.

BOTH sides are making this as painful as possible. Obama is a Marxist Communist, and the Republicans have abandoned the military and are now chanting "Burn it All Down!" so that they can be "me too!" defenders of the welfare state. Glad the GOP is now for Amnesty that will cost us Billions more.

Barrasso getting to the core of sequestration!! The President has a lot of descresion! He can make it very difficult with the wrong cuts in spending if he chooses. Everyone on our side needs to be saying this!!

Its key to the core of sequestration.!!Its up to the President what gets cut!! These cuts they are squealing about are not written in stone.!!!

Barrasso just broke the back of Axelrod’s little plan to make a long laundry list of cuts supposedly due to Sequestration that will make it ever so difficult on Americans. Seems the President is the one who makes it easy or difficult depending on what he cuts where, no one else.

Mark Kelly is an example of all that is distasteful with DC, our Congress, etc. He is considered the "heir apparent" for his wife's seat. Mark Kelly Seen as a Possible Heir to Gabrielle Giffords' Political Career

Heir.....based on what? Because he's married to her? Because he's doing the gun grab thing? Because......does it matter?

I watched some of the ABC round table this am with George Will et al. and was struck with just how out of sync I am with any of these people - whether it's the pundits or the politicians. They are the ruling class; we are the ruled.

In talking about the Hagel nomination/confirmation, it is considered a done deal. This is about showboating to keep him waiting. Will found it pathetic that it would be held up. If obama wants him, he should have him as SofDefense.

I'm sitting there thinking - then why do they bother to have hearings? The fact is - there is NO point to these hearings except to pretend they are doing due diligence, get a few sounds bites in for their next election. It is disgusting. >

We pay them for the priviledge to be ruled.

I don’t know what to think as far as defense spending cuts, SkyPilot. Some say defense is way too bloated; that there are areas where waste can be eliminated. I guess that’s where Paul is saying it doesn’t worry him too much. The problem may be with WHO is determining where waste is and where the cuts will be.

obama et al deciding that we can not have two carriers in the Persian Gulf is pure manipulation of our military readiness in the region for politics. Why congressional leaders aren’t screaming about the fact that he is playing politics with our security is beyond me. I guess the ruling class has grown accustomed to obama’s willingness to put the US at risk to get his way and see it as the same ol’, same ol’.

Boy I'll say.

He's desecrated the military, the churches, the middle class, the auto industry, the energy sector, the lending industry, the housing industry...etc etc etc.

If we have Spanish as a second official language, then the country will be Balkanized linguistically and culturally. Demography is destiny.

I know that, having lived in Canada for 20 years, and dealing with the official bilinguality. I would strongly support legislation and regulations that require everyone who moves here to have one designated 'advocate' who speaks English in any official situation for the non-English speaking person.

When you legalize their status, they add to our fiscal problems. When you legalize their status, they add to our fiscal problems.

Consider them a replacement for the lost workers in the current generation as a result of rampant abortion of native Americans.

They didn't do that [enforce immigration law] with the 1986 amnesty. Why should we believe them now? Why not just try enforcement first and only to see if we can really do it?

What is your definition of 'enforcement?' A secure border or deportation?

Have you heard Republicans scream about anything?

They have not taken O to court on his Executive Orders. Someone took them to court on the recess appointments of the NLRB members, but not on other recess appointments or EOs.

O has run roughshot over all notions of checks and balances, and the GOP stands mute.

The GOP is totally off the field and in hiding.

They alloowd that tratorous bastand Kerry to have a love fest in his conformation. There were so many unanswered qiets about his treason, but he got a total pass.

Now with Hagel we have a solitary Senator (Cruz) with guts or curiosity and he is being branded “McCarthy” by both sides of the aisle, even through Hagel is the worst nominee in history.

I agree with what you wrote. I just thought something so simple like the two carrier policy would have been an easy ones for the Repubs, regardless of the politics of the thing. I was wrong. THey just seem to shrug it off. Mayb we don’t need any carriers there, if it’s so unimportant.

It was totally disheartening today to watch these inside the beltway types discuss politics while our country is being destroyed. They don’t seem to give a flying leap.

I would strongly support legislation and regulations that require everyone who moves here to have one designated 'advocate' who speaks English in any official situation for the non-English speaking person.

Why a designated advocate? Why not legislate that English be the official language of the US and that any immigrant save the aged be proficient in English before granting permanent residency? No official business should be conducted in a language other than English.

Consider them a replacement for the lost workers in the current generation as a result of rampant abortion of native Americans.

Pure sophistry. There are over 40 million foreign born in this country. They are not units of labor but bring their own culture and values with them. And more and more they are not being assimilated. They are not the same kinds of people who are born in this country. Perhaps you are unaware of how significant immigration has been in changing the demographics of this country.

The U.S. adds one international migrant (net) every 36 seconds. Immigrants account for one in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in more than 90 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.

Currently, 1.6 million legal and illegal immigrants settle in the country each year; 350,000 immigrants leave each year, resulting in a net immigration of 1.25 million. Since 1970, the U.S. population has increased from 203 million to 315 million, i.e., over 100 million. In the next 40 years, the population will increase by an additional 130 million to 445 million. Three-quarters of the increase in our population since 1970 and the projected increase will be the result of immigration. The U.S., the world’s third most populous nation, has the highest annual rate of population growth of any developed country in the world, i.e., 0.9% (2012 estimate,) principally due to immigration.

The nation’s immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached 40 million in 2010, the highest number in our history. The U.S. immigrant population has doubled since 1990, nearly tripled since 1980, and quadrupled since 1970, when it stood at 9.7 million. Of the 40 million immigrants in the country in 2010, 13.9 million arrived in 2000 or later making it the highest decade of immigration in American history, even though there was a net loss of jobs during the decade.

Growth in the immigrant population has primarily been driven by high levels of legal immigration. Roughly three-fourths of immigrants in the country are here legally. With nearly 12 million immigrants, Mexico was by far the top immigrant-sending country, accounting for 29 percent of all immigrants and 29 percent of growth in the immigrant population from 2000 to 2010. The median age of immigrants in 2010 was 41.4 compared to 35.9 for natives.

Do you buy the nonsense that we have a shortage of workers? Why did we bring in 13.9 million legal immigrants during the decade ending in 2010 while we had a net decrease in jobs during that same period? Does that make sense when we have 23 million Americans looking for full-time employment?

What is your definition of 'enforcement?' A secure border or deportation?

Enforcing the existing laws of this country including deportation. A secure border is part of enforcement as well as tracking down and deporting visa overstays who comprise 40% of the illegal aliens in this country. We need to cut off the job magnet by going after employers who hire lawbreakers. This would include making the E-verify system mandatory,

Even the proponents of amnesty say they want enforcement and deportation--after they get their amnesty. Of course, just like the amnesty of 1986, once the legalization takes place, then enforcement is forgotten.

Our current legal immigration policies that bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants a year--more than the rest of the world combined--have changed the electorate. 87% of the 1.2 million legal immigrants entering annually are minorities as defined by the U.S. Government and almost all of the illegal aliens are minorities. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under in the U.S. will be classified as minorities and by 2042, half of the residents of this country will be minorities. Generally, immigrants and minorities vote predominantly for the Democrat Party. Hence, Democrats view immigration as a never-ending source of voters that will make them the permanent majority party.

Since the 1965 Immigration Act, our pro-population growth immigration policies have fueled major demographic changes in a very short period of time. In 1970, non-Hispanic whites comprised 89 percent of the population; today they are 66 percent; and by 2042, they will be 50 percent. The Democrats, under the banner of multiculturalism and diversity, have forged a political coalition that depends on individuals coalescing around racial and ethnic identities rather than the issues. The continuing and increasing flow of minority immigrants, mostly poor and uneducated, provides a natural constituency for the Democrats, which see them as their principal source of political power.

57% of immigrant headed households with children are on at least one major welfare program.

In 2010, 23 percent of immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) lived in poverty, compared to 13.5 percent of natives and their children. Immigrants and their children accounted for one-fourth of all persons in poverty.

The children of immigrants account for one-third of all children in poverty.

In 2010, 29 percent of immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) lacked health insurance, compared to 13.8 percent of natives and their children.

New immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for two-thirds of the increase in the uninsured since 2000.

There are 10.4 million students from immigrant households in public schools, accounting for one in five public school students. Of these students, 78 percent speak a language other than English at home.

Overall, one in four public school students now speaks a language other than English at home.

Of adult immigrants (25 to 65), 28 percent have not completed high school, compared to 7 percent of natives.

Many immigrants make significant progress the longer they live in the country. However, on average even immigrants who have lived in the United States for 20 years have not come close to closing the gap with natives.

The poverty rate of adult immigrants who have lived in the United States for 20 years is 50 percent higher than that of adult natives.

New immigration (legal and illegal) plus births to immigrants added 22.5 million residents to the country over the last decade, equal to 80 percent of total U.S. population growth.

Recent immigration has had only a tiny impact on the nation’s age structure. If the nearly 14 million immigrants who arrived in 2000 or later are excluded, it raises the average age in the United States in 2010 from 37.4 years to 37.6 years — roughly two months.

The nation’s immigrant population (legal and illegal)

How can those two completely unrelated groups share the same descriptive term?

The immigrants are here legally, to work, study or become citizens. The illegal aliens are criminal invaders.

Legal and illegal immigrants are just two sides of the same coin. They are essentially the same kinds of people when it comes to measuring the impact they are having on our country. Two thirds of legal immigrants vote Dem. They use welfare to a higher degree than the native born. We need fewer legal immigrants and no illegal ones.

If Obama, Rubio, Rand Paul, McCain, Graham, et al are successful, those 11 to 20 million illegal aliens will be legal immigrants. When you reward something, you get more of it.

That's just not true!

As a first generation American, and having come from a community of assimilated Europeans, I know there are highly skilled foreigners who come here to participate in the American Dream and become Americans.

#####

Then why is all the focus of political dialogue about our porous southern border. If companies can keep track of every customer, our visa system should get up to speed and track our visa recipients. Our State Dept. is a total waste of time, judging by their effectiveness.
