Barack Obama says 'I wish I'd had a father' as he addresses guns in Chicago
President Barack Obama today urged the young men of America to help tackle gun violence by taking responsibility for raising their sons, using an emotional return to his home city to admit: I wish I'd had a father who was around and involved.
In an unusually personal speech at a school in his old Chicago neighbourhood, Mr Obama, who was raised by his mother, said his attempts to introduce new gun control laws must be matched by more men behaving like role models who are held up in respect by their sons, grandsons and nephews.
There's no more important ingredient for success, nothing that would be more important for us reducing violence than strong, stable families, which means we should do more to promote marriage and encourage fatherhood, said Mr Obama.
Hailing his heroic late mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, who gave everything she had to raise me, Mr Obama said in one of the most candid statements of his presidency: At the same time, I wish I had had a father who was around and involved.
Barack Obama senior, a Kenyan economist, divorced Ms Dunham in 1964, three years after the birth of their son. A heavy drinker, he died in a 1982 car accident, 11 years after he last saw Barack junior.

L O L
and I bet his two girls wish they had a Father who stayed home and spent some time with them also...
this guy is such a looser...
the point was, he had more than lots of others and he still turned out just as angry and feral. he had a lot of breaks others didn’t.
If the bum should have anything it should be a warden.
i wish he had a working conscience.
I would think that the Muslim Indonesians would be really PO’s by now over how Barry has deleted his step-dad from his and his mom’s life. That would be the oil company manager who enrolled him in school and made sure he learned about Islam and put a roof over his head and his mom’s head for at least three of his formative years in Indonesia.
Lolo was also the doting father of Barry’s half-sister who is also missing in Barry’s “single mom” narrative. His mom was legally single for just one year from 1964 to 1965 before Barry left for college, IIRC!
Later in the speech Barry goes out of his way to praise non-traditional families (single moms, adoptive dads) but pointedly omits step-dads.
i think this is the winner on the thread.
and thanks to his mom being punished with him, now we’re all punished with him, too.
He did and it was the communist Frank Marshall Davis. The african from Kenyan his white trash mama was sleeping with a the same time. But his real father was the communist. Then his surrogant father was whitely-hating Jeremiah Wright.

LOL!!!!
They left it out of the article (and all other articles I can find), but he also said the child should be raised by both parents whether they’re gay or straight. (Since his talk was about fathers, I guess he was leaving lesbians out, or maybe he thought the donor dad needed to be in the kid’s life. Can’t find the transcript for his exact words.)
Bastard.
Communist.
Dictator.
Well, if he wants S. side chicago boys to have fathers, then quit trying to replace those fathers with welfare checks and other benefits. Provide INCENTIVES for these ppl to marry and stay married, for God’s sake ....could it be any more obvious???
Such a worthless showboat. Why’d he even bother going there ...just getting these poor people’s hopes up.
President Obama's right on the above - and he's been a good father. And he has impressive children... No one's wrong a hundred percent of the time...
