Mold? Leaky Roof? Obama Administration Says All Americans Must Have 'Healthy Housing'

(CNSNews.com) - Under the broad banner of "health," the federal government not only is telling Americans what to eat, it's also telling us to make our homes safer.

This week, the Obama administration released a "bold new vision for addressing the nation's health and economic burdens caused by preventable hazards associated with the home."

The project has a name: "Advancing Healthy Housing: A Strategy for Action."

"People in the United States spend about 70% of their time in a home," the announcement said.

"Currently, millions of U.S. homes have moderate to severe physical housing problems, including dilapidated structure; roofing problems; heating, plumbing, and electrical deficiencies; water leaks and intrusion; pests; damaged paint; and high radon gas levels. These conditions are associated with a wide range of health issues, including unintentional injuries, respiratory illnesses like asthma and radon-induced lung cancer, lead poisoning, result in lost school days for children, as well as lost productivity in the labor force."

According to the Obama administration, the health and economic burdens from preventable hazards associated with both subsidized and privately owned homes cost billions of dollars.

The new strategy "unifies" federal efforts to advance healthy housing -- "demonstrating the connection between housing conditions and residents’ health."

The federal partners pushing healthy housing include the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Surgeon General, and Energy Department.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan says the federal government must do "everything we can to ensure that individuals and families have a healthy place to call home." He said the strategy "will help the federal government unify action (on) controlling and preventing major housing-related exposures and hazards."

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said the government now has a "specific plan for action to address radon and other preventable hazards found in homes across the country." The strategy, she added, "is a critical step" toward ensuring that "Americans in all communities have healthy places to live, work and play."

The healthy homes strategy sets five goals for reducing the number of substandard homes:

-- Establish healthy homes recommendations (homes should be dry, clean, pest-free, safe, contaminant-free, well-ventilated, and well-maintained and thermally controlled);

-- Encourage adoption of healthy homes recommendations (federal, state and local regulations);

-- Create and support training and workforce development to address health hazards in housing (train people for new jobs in green energy and construction);

-- Educate the public about healthy homes (advertising campaigns telling Americans how their homes ought to be)

-- Support research that advances healthy housing in a cost-effective manner (taxpayer-funded grants to study the problem).

A 2013 report from the "Federal Healthy Homes Work Group" notes that "susceptible and vulnerable populations, such as children, the poor, minorities, individuals with behavioral health issues, and people with chronic medical conditions, may be disproportionately impacted by inadequate housing."

The report also says many home-based hazards are preventable -- "and opportunities exist for intervention programs that would not only reduce health impacts on
occupants, but the economic burden as well, resulting in a positive return on investment."

You want to know which law makes this possible? Unfortunately, the answer is the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA, 42 U.S.C. §§ 4321-4347).

The EPA can do whatever they want under NEPA as long as Congress writes them a check.

One suspects that confiscation of private property is the end game objective, and the rest is distraction and deceit.

The problem with President Obama’s ideology is there’s never an end to it. If you’re someone who believes government needs to act wherever there’s a need, then government will never stop expanding. However, government is inherently inefficient, and the larger the government, the more inefficient it becomes. So when the government acts, it creates further distortions which will require even more government to address. It becomes a never ending cycle of expansion until there’s no area left free.

So that’s the issue here. There’s ALWAYS a need somewhere, and there’s ALWAYS some sort of problem that needs to be addressed. No government is ever big enough for the likes of President Obama who probably sees the US Constitution as an annoying, archaic restriction on his ability to help people. He’s not alone. President Bush, for example, had his $30 billion AIDS program for Africa.

We should also be aware that government programs do help some people. There are millions of people right now who are on the upside of wealth redistribution programs. That includes seniors getting expensive medical care far in excess of anything they ever paid into Medicare, poor people on Medicaid, welfare moms, and even crony capitalists with lucrative government contracts. Have no doubt, some people are indeed benefitting from more government.

It’s not that conservatives don’t believe in helping people. We do. It’s how people are helped that matters. If people are better off because they’ve essentially robbed their neighbors, I don’t agree with it. If liberty is sacrificed so some people are protected from their own bad choices, then again, I don’t agree. In the end, the left will have sacrificed prosperity and liberty for nothing.

Geez, I replaced the guts to a toilet in my house today. The water was very cold. Oh the pain and agony. I am so f'n stupid. I should have asked Obama to fix it for me.

Strike that. The fag can't even throw a baseball. I bet he never did any home repairs.

Another ACORN payoff...

It was the ACORN type groups that were awarded stimulus bucks to “weatherproof” houses on low income types.

Here it comes again...........

Every house must have the pictures of the POTUS and VPOTUS posted in the master bedroom and family room and posted in a very prominent place !

> Looking forward to the fine print.

> Examples:

> Every home must have a foot bath and prayer rug.

> Every home must have a barn/stable for camels.

I’ll take a swing at this one.

If states and localities so choose, they could tell the feds you had better not send your inspectors to the homes of our citizens or we will stop you by whatever means necessary.

The Constitution protects us from unlawful searches. Have we committed a federal crime? Where is the search warrant? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Tenth Amendment.

A 1969 EPA law cannot trump the U.S. Constitution.

I’m sure the IRS would drop criminal prosecution if we villagers-serfs paid a hefty penalty for failing to replace our roofs in a timely manner.

This is all about making private property “unsustainable”. . .The government to condemn and confiscate “unhealthy and unsafe” property and relocate the masses into “sustainable” population centers. No joke. .that is the plan. . .and those that resist? . .hello FEMA camps.

Sounds like a good reason for the govt to condem our homes then force us to live in govt provided housing.

Yep, herd everyone into concrete highrises in urban clusters, leaving the rural areas to farming and wilderness, where only a handful of farming employees live and the elite have their dachas. But we'll have safe housing.

Here it comes people.............housing redistribution! Deliberate housing collapse, job losses in the middleclass causes foreclosures bought up by fanny and freddy and redistributed to the low information voters for thier loyalty now and in the future when you might be needed to fight off the rich, me and you. It's a plan years in the making, slow inconspicuously moving forward in the background while we all watch American Idol the bachelor and dancing with the stars.

King Henry VIII's castle didn't have any of this. Section 8 food stampers have it better than any king did: more food, better healthcare, more serial sex partners, more ridiculous clothing, more entertainment choices, a better ride, super powers of knowledge and communication at their fingertips. Like King Henry they are entitled by birth and don't have to do any work.

I'm really getting tired of the intrusion. I believe they should all be met with disobedience, civil at first and shortly thereafter, uncivil as in the 2nd amendment.
