Winter Storm Nemo; Historic Blizzard Looms
Weather Channel ^ | 02/07/13 | Dolce, Erdman

Posted on 02/07/2013 5:06:12 PM PST by GRRRRR

Here we go with another freak out about a winter storm. From naming it like a hurricane to generate more angst, to the continuing reminders that it "COULD" be a top ten storm in all time history, the weather guessers are doing the hype dance.

Granted, this one looks particularly nasty, but most sane people will grab some extra milk and get home early Friday before the main bands hit.

Take cover NE FReepers and keep us updated on how it's coming along.

Post lots of pics from your yards and neighborhoods so we can all OOOOH and AHHHH at the precip!!

Above all, stay safe, get off the roads early!!

‘”COULD” be a top ten storm in all time history’

Shep certainly said it as if he was GOING to say “tops of all time”, period. But he said top 10. No big surprise there; that leaves a lot of wiggle room.

Seems it could indeed be big, but limited in bigness - to MA down to NYC. Top 10 perhaps for those localities. So, those people may have to sit tight. But it seems otherwise it won’t be spread too far, at least as far as “2 feet” goes.

Wow, imagine if I was still living in SE CT. It’s been 15 years.

No apologies!

No apologies maybe, but all of us will pay dearly for any inconvenience they may suffer from this

The blizzard of 78 was quite a storm. The cars were buried, and people actually were stuck in their cars out on 128. The coastal storm surge was serious, with many homes destroyed in Scituate, and other beach towns. Something like 75 people died in the storm, and it took days before the roads were cleared.

We did however get the local package store dug out within 24 hours.

Boy, it’s rough all over. It got down to nearly 70 degrees here today.

Just dropped to 70 here in CENTEX as well. Got up to 81 or 82 depending which weather station you had on the toolbar.

Only banning “assault weapons” could have prevented this terrible storm.

The head of the comma shaped storm is forming up nicely over Michigan while you can see rotation just off the South Carolina coast.

Now they'll make their move and rake their way through the Northern tier of states, and the NE coast.

Only in the northeast do they think their local news merits our attention.

I remember once Fox running with a traffic-jammed bridge leading into NYC as a big news item.

6-12 inches in lower NY is not that unusual, nor is lots up near Syracuse.

If they don’t like it, don’t live there.

No, no, it's because Cuomo attacked assault weapons and missed the target ~ he hit BB guns ~ it will be utterly devastating ~ 95 mph winds, blizzard conditions, wetness, coldness, deepness, blindness ~ the whole works.

Take that stupid governor

My niece in the Albany area said all but one school had announced closing for tomorrow ... 2=3 hours ago, so by now that one probably announced, too. Kids ecstatic. Mom not so much.

Here in Indiana we had a much hyped blizzard warning the day after Christmas 2012. It turned out to be 5 inches of snow and 25 mph winds.

Now 1978, THAT was a real blizzard.

Chicago, 1967 January.

Same day the Apollo crew were burned alive. White, Chaffee and Grissom.

Snow over the garage roof.

When did they start naming any old storm that came along! When I was young, we just called it winter!
