Posted on 02/03/2013 8:23:34 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet
The US shale boom has led some to predict that it will overtake Saudi Arabia as worlds largest oil and gas producer by 2020, thanks to the massive reserves found in plays such as the Bakken Shale of North Dakota, the Marcellus Shale in New York, and the Eagle Ford Shale in Texas; even the newly discovered Tuscaloosa Shale formation in Louisiana holds large potential.
However there is a new shale formation that has been discovered in West Texas which could dwarf all others being drilled in the US at the moment.
The play is known as the Cline Shale play and has been discovered in the Permian Basin.
John Breyer a geologist at Marathon Oil Corp.(NYES: MRO) said that this new discovery could dwarf anything that exists in North Dakota...

Not new to those of us that have been producing it for the last 10 years.
Whats he going to do, this is all private land.
It’s sad to see so many here that have fallen for the anti fracing BS. We have 20 more Cline wells to drill on our place up nth and I’m tempted to video the whole process from drilling, fracing to production. It would be an eye opener for many especialy when they see the technologies involved and all the people it takes to pull this off. The population in our area has increased by about 15-20 percent in the last 3 years.
“As Cline Shale boom expectations mount, the residual effects of recent increases in oil and gas industry activity are apparent in skyrocketing demand for property.”
That is an understatement, the flood of people moving to this area has over run us. Old properties and houses are being rebuilt and turned around as fast as they can complete them. Major builder from around the state are setting up facilities to keep up. Service companies can’t get enough people to keep up with the demand. I handle the production side of our company and keeping things up running and flowing is getting more difficult. My pumper used to get their loads sold within 24 hours now it may takes as long as 4 days to get a load picked up. Pecos and Navajo have both brought in trucks from around the states and have set up new gathering stations on the west and north side of town. Two new gas lines are headed north of town to gathering locations up there. We’re like a giant antbed down here.
Whats kind of funny about this story is Marathon dominated this area for years then sold their holdings and started chasin gas over in the Hanisville Shale over in LA. They were sitting right on top of this.
does this mean, that we don’t have to kiss some muslims butt in order to buy foreign oil...time to pack up and leave the middle-east....who needs muslim oil?
Apparently math isn’t your friend either.
A trillion barrels currently recoverable in Green River shale at $100 per barrel is $100 trillion.
Subtract production costs and a “mere” $17 trillion debt goes away pretty quickly.
Perhaps you could apply your theory to why oil production is only found in Sedimentary Basins. Also, use your theory to explain why oil is never sourced to igneous rock.
I Think the shale is lower, deeper than the old production.
We went to the area last May, passing through so to speak, and learned of the activity. We stayed three days to visit the oil country off the Interstate and see the activity.
The place was like a bee hive. White pickups with one or two occupants were rushing about all over. We talked at length with a man, a pipe fitter, in the camp ground who had come from Pennsylvania. He was calling his buddies telling them to come. He was offered as much work as he could do.
In the small towns, there were all sorts of people hiring for all kinds of jobs. More staff means more work, more payroll, more clerks etc. The private campgrounds were full. The travelers like the one we met had problem finding a place to park their trailers.
On topic, we saw new wells being drilled in vacant spots but we also saw several being drilled on the same pad, right beside an old well.
The area visited was west of Odessa TX, north and south of Monahans and westward
**You wont last long here Troll.**
Nope, perkalong is gone.
Do you assume the cost to produce and refine the oil in your calculations?
Do you assume the cost to produce and refine the oil in your calculations?
Obama, Democrats, the EPA and the media will shut this down because they say oil causes global warming. But global warming is a hoax. the government spent trillions and decades researching , funding and creating this hoax. proves socialism/government never works and is the enemy
Time to pile on a zotted gore bull warming troll.
Hat tip to Texas Fossil at #29
And I can spend 15 minutes proving it’s hoax.
We are going to refine oil regardless of it being produced in the US or imported from an OPEC nation. The production cost is valid.
How about a nice fat SURCHARGE to the blue/RAT states, and a nice discount to the Red/normal-people states?
We’ll drill the rest later.
President Obama hasnt really backed down from anything yet, so I dont see him dropping his commitment to fighting climate change anytime soon regardless of the state.0bama promised to be the most transparent Administration in history - which was a total lie. 0bama promised no lobbyists at the WH - total lie. 0bama promised not to be partisan - full blown lie. 0bama promised not to go after guns -another lie. etc.
Thanks for the ping, TOL...Good riddance.
There are a few reasons.
Environmentalists in California are ferocious. They’ve teamed up with enviro-nazis in the government to prevent citizens from keeping their land. The BLM and American Land Conservancy together were trying to buy land in Kings County claiming it was for a wildlife preserve. There was a fish that caused the San Joaquin Valley to lose access to irrigation water - just so happens there is lots of oil under some of those farms.
This oil is covered by a layer of chert; a very hard sedimentary stone that is difficult to drill through.
Then, after drilling through the chert, the oil itself is very viscous and under low pressure. Gushers are few and the oil can be difficult to extract.
Yes, as soon as we get NASA back on track. ;-)
Now that I have a new computer to replace my deceased laptop, I can actually ping my whole list again!
Clever, Sarge. Clever.
Thanks for the ping.
Perkalong wasn’t perky and didn’t have a positive thing to say about anybody or anything. Good riddance.
Good critique of the not-perky one’s posting history. Thanks!
Thank you! Shouldn’t ‘a messed with Texas!
Wish you would video!
It’s never a good idea to mess with Texas or Texans.
Thanks for the Ping.
Interesting posting history on that one. Taken in isolation, many of their posts appear at first glance to be of a quite conservative bent. In fuller contex and with the aid of Zot-assisted hindsight however, it’s obvious their goal was divide-and-conquer.
That is typical troll behavior. They stay cloaked and slowly start the little digs and hinky opinions every once in a while, until they come out and show their true colors and get the zot.
It’s an infiltration technique, but it doesn’t work effectively unless the troll can attain a position of power on the site. A mere observer and commenter really can’t do much damage, and he gets outed and banned eventually.
His repeated use of the respectful term, “President Obama”, was a dead give away. Nobody here uses that
Good point, and nice catch.
Could have stayed cloaked longer if he called him “poopy head.”
He learnedctheclesson the hard way! :)
Hey Wide, we will reach 47 trillion in sovereign debt at some point this week.
My statement was quite accurate.
Any attempt to market a significant portion of said shale oil would drop the price of crude to less than $5/barrel.
The is no potential for “water damage” with fracking. The only impediment to hydrocarbon development in the US are the politicians and others on the take from OPEC, count on it.
How so, I wonder?
That’s a nice one!
Here’s the funny thing about global warming: If it actually existed, it would be a good thing. If the world was hotter, more water would would evaporate and become moisture, which in turn would become clouds that produce rain. Thus, places that are barren wastelands, like the Sahara desert in central Africa, would become fertile, feeding millions of people.
But none of that is happening, now is it ? Global warming is as fake as the rug on Joe Biteme’s stupid head. There is no such thing, just like there is no such thing as a government program that comes in under budget.
“His repeated use of the respectful term, ‘President Obama’, was a dead give away. Nobody here uses that”
You have a good point there. For the life of me, I can’t remember the last time I said those horrid words without adding the words “Jew hater”, “dog-eating”, “homosexual agenda pushing”, “gun grabber”, “Catholic persecuting”, or “Marxist inspired dictator”.
You got that right. All that A-rab money, and the greedy guts in DC just can’t resist.
Every DC senator and rep should be limited to one term, at the end of which, they go home and get a damn job. No more politics, and no lobbyist position, ever.
Thank you, good lookin’! You’re a sweetheart.
Indeed. Good points.
