My husband and I choose to be childless in Seattle, writes editorial columnist Sharon Pian Chan
My husband and I just ended our debate about having children. To breed or not to breed, this was the question...
We have decided we have other things to give to the world. We wont be having kids. We choose to be childless in Seattle. ...
Feminism empowered women to talk about motherhood as a pursuit that deserves as much attention as mens work. In the past 20 years, women have bravely spoken about struggles to conceive, which helped educate a generation about fertility. But society rarely hears from women who decide not to have kids.
Do you have children? My friends standard answer is, No, and its not for medical reasons. Im cribbing it.
Will I regret it?
Probably sometimes. Just like parents sometimes regret their choice.
Would I have to sacrifice my career goals if we had a child? Probably. Ive gone from believing I can do it all to believing that life is short. Saying no to some things allows me to say yes to others.
My husband could be the primary caregiver while I charge after my goals, but then he would have to say no to some of his goals.
Am I being selfish if I don't have children?
Im selfish for not committing to my hypothetical childs well-being. But I will have a lot more attention and money to shower on real-life nieces, nephews, mentees and philanthropic causes.
Also, not having a child is the most important thing I could do to reduce my carbon footprint, according to a 2009 study by Oregon State University statisticians. ...

On behalf of humanity, may I say, “Thank you.”
Its great starting off the day with some good news.
Naively helping humanity by not breeding more into this liberal utopian dogma.
her choice, I will say this, there is no love to touch that of a mother for her child and there is no misery so complete as your child suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and furthermore, your child has the ability to enhance your life or wreck your life
My children have been blessings to me, especially as life events occur, and I get older.
And don't even get my started on my grandchildren. Blessings, all.

“Just like parents sometimes regret their choice”.
Perhaps, I hang out with different types of people but I have NOT met one parent yet that regrets having a child. Could they regret not pushing Bobby more when he wanted to drop piano? Sure... but I have never met one parent(s) that regretted bringing Bobby into the world. My paternal Grandmother had a saying: you are a couple and will always be a couple until you have (adopt) a child. A child makes you a family. Otherwise, you will live your life as a couple. The older I get, the more I realize that my matriarchal Irish Grandma was wise!
“Also, not having a child is the most important thing I could do to reduce my carbon footprint, according to a 2009 study by Oregon State University statisticians”
Wow, And who is the recipient that she is concerned about To live in the world with less carbon? Children of the religious people? In any case, thank you lady for your contribution.
Why are they not having kids?
Because God says you should.
That’s the nub of it.
Why is she still living? After all the “internal insight” of the planets health and the welfare of humans, her career goals....it should be clear that she is contributing the downfall of the universe with her presence.....she might want to explore a big bottle of sleeping pills with a pint of vodka taken at all once.
I would make one observation...without knowing much on the lady....that she has lived her entire life in a metropolitan area. I doubt that she’s ever gone on a road tour across Iowa, or sat in a humble small-town cafe in Tennessee, or watched a kid’s softball game in July.
Her parents should have made the same contribution.
What a weird turn of phrase!
I’ll call that a good start!
Her moral self-righteousness is typical of many liberals.
They remind me of a giant squid squirting its ink, indiscrimanently and in all directions.
‘Pod
And what if you had, Mom? Does that mean you wouldn't get old and eventually die?
Yep. Every liittle bit helps.
“To breed or not to breed, this was the question.”
How appropriate that choice of words are. I have never thought of having and raising moral, responsible, motivated children as “breeding”.
yeah she could further “reduce” her stupid “carbon footprint” if she wasn’t around either.........what lunacy
I’ll bet the husband looks like the guy claiming to be a French model in the State Farm commercial. I’ll be he is equipped with hipster black frame glasses, a man purse, and sandals..
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
Also, not having a child is the most important thing I could do to reduce my carbon footprintSucker!
Pass this article on to all of your liberal friends!
Psst...sweetie....ten bucks says that your little fella is “out” within a month of your piece having been published.
Your point is spot-on. Also, "breeding" and "breeders" are derogatory words used by many homosexuals when discussing traditional marriage.
Well, if this tripe is the “other things” she has to give the world, then she should give the world the pleasure of her silence.
And *I'll* bet that,in his dreams, the husband looks like the creature in the middle.
This is really good news...
The fewer Leftards breeding the better...
Factor in abortion and homosexuality, and the Libs will make themselves extinct...
Hurry...Please!
There is one more step but she's just too selfish to take it.
May Father Darwin smile down upon them.
one less useless eater...
If see really wants to reduce her carbon foot print she can stop exhaling carbon dioxide.
It leaves more room for us and our kids.
We will out breed them eventually. :D
When she is in the Nursing Home she will probably enjoy watching the others there being seen by their children, and she gets no company at all.
She can always leave everything to her cat.
What a sad pathetic being.
Although, I should prolly be happy she’s not breeding.
Thank you for not breeding. Now, do us a favor and urge all your fellow liberals to follow your example.
And I’ll get back to you on voluntary euthanasia so we can keep the Earth green and pristine. . .
(This is like shooting fish in a barrel. . . . [evil grin] )
Lefties refusing to breed. Its a good thing.
“When she is in the Nursing Home she will probably enjoy watching the others there being seen by their children, and she gets no company at all.”
She’d better learn Spanish, too; they are the ones filling the void where her children would be.
Good riddance to these creatures.
It is not a “man purse” if it contains a 9mm or a .38S&W.
An address to send a bullet is needed.
What a weird turn of phrase!
&&&
I suppose she thinks she is being clever in invoking "To be or not to be" in that soliloquy from Hamlet.
I, for one, am grateful when the lefties choose not to reproduce.
In all fairness, and despite how it is rationalized, the truth is that many people naturally realize that they just do not have it in them to reproduce and raise children. Many don’t even have enough zip to marry or even have sex.
To even try to marry and make children would injure or kill them, and their children would neither be healthy or happy, and would not, could not, live good lives.
It’s nobody’s fault, just biology, and the only two questions it creates are what percentage of our population are designed to be able to breed and what percentage isn’t; and is there some niche the non-breeders could occupy where they can help, not hurt, society as a whole.
Going back a step, there may be a good biological reasons for children to be born that are not intended to breed themselves.
One suggestion is that the first offspring gets many more dominant genes, and subsequent offspring get fewer dominant and more recessive genes. This makes sense, because more dominant genes would generally make someone stronger and healthier, but could backfire and not work, so the subsequent offspring’s recessive genes might fill the gap if the first one dies off or fails.
This might be somewhat confirmed by noticing that the more older siblings a child has, the more likely they will be a homosexual. And though it has never been studied as such, homosexuals also tend to have far more physical and psychological problems, unrelated to their sexuality.
Have met several liberals like that here in the past year. They hate kids and they’re open about it, and they’re not having them.
Whatever. They can do what they want with their lives ...but hush up already with degrading children and parents who DO choose to have children. They should just do their thing and keep their big mouths shut.
I really don’t care what these druids do with their lives. Just leave me and MY happy family alone!!!
Good.

That's the influence of feminism and homosexual activists. They consider anyone who has kids as a 'breeder', and they're ruining the planet. Whatever. As long as they don't have kids, it will be OUR kids who will be making decisions for them when they're old and grey. Those 'anti-breeders' won't realize just how fortunate they are.
