It’s fascinating, actually, to see a nominee of this importance do so poorly. Chuck Hagel, nominated for defense secretary, has gone from awful to atrocious today, having to deny the obvious meaning of words he previously authored (on Global Zero), correct himself repeatedly (no, he didn’t mean Iran’s government was “legitimate”) and find himself simply unable to explain himself. Forgetting about his views, he does not radiate the confidence nor project the intelligence the job demands. It is unclear whether he was not prepped properly, whether he refused to be coached or whether he simply isn’t bright.

They’re not mutually exclusive.
They shot Kerry through there like Grease through a Goose, now they attack Hagel.
Not that I like Hagel, but I cannot stand a traitor and a Glorifed Stolen Glory, band aid wounded, war criminal.
I’m beginning to think Hagel is a red herring. Obama has trotted him out knowing he would be shot down. By congress doing this, it will be much harder to shoot down whoever is next. That will be the person that Obama “really” wants in the job. Should be very revealing.....
So he and 0bama are a perfect match!
I was surprised at first that I saw nothing objectionable and, in fact, I thought he did quite well during (prepared) initial statement. The surprise appearance of John Warner and Sam Nunn with their seemingly sincere endorsement of Hagel touched me, as a fellow Vietnam Vet. I had to leave my boss’s office after the first hour to do some actual work, and apparently it went downhill from there. The media certainly are playing it as a failure tonight.
But you know what? I’ll bet he gets confirmed. This ad,imistration likely had every vote counted before they ever nominated him. That’s what they do.

Freepers have been calling Hagel an idiot for years. Today he was good enough to prove us correct in that assessment.

I still say he’s approved. 40 pubbies voted for that fool Kerry. Hagel is a bigger fool, so maybe 10 or 20 pubbies vote no along with half a dozen or so demholes. He passes with 60 I’d bet.
