I was trying to figure out what I was going to say, then I saw your short and succinct response.
Enough said.
I recall being addressed by both senior officers and Chiefs as “Son”. I never took exception to it at the time. I never viewed it as degrading or insulting, though I have heard some do.
Funny, though...never had a LT or below refer to me as “Son”. They were probably too close to us in age to do that...:)
It is one of the reasons I don’t watch television. That is all so true.

Recall when the decision was made to put women in USN ships, the people who made those decisions and enforced those rules did not have to pay the consequences of their decisions, either.
National Defense, sailors and taxpayers paid the price for their dumbass decision, while the Poobahs skated, just like they will this time too!
And, don’t get me started about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and homosexuals in the military!

Nothing personal (because I do understand you are stating what may be a fact) but I cannot think of a weaker argument in favor of doing something like this than to point to the Soviet Union as an example to follow.
There is nothing that God forsaken country has ever done that I want my country to emulate, especially when it comes to matters dealing with women.
5 years after women join the Rangers/SEALS/Delta/frontline combat units, etc, you will hear talking heads in and out of the military who will say things like:
NEWS ANCHOR/POLITICIAN/MILITARY COMMANDER: “When we integrated women and homosexuals into these units, people were saying it was going to be a disaster, that it would hurt mission capability, morale and such. We are more capable now than we have ever been, and have the moral buttress of diversity and equality. Remember how they said the same thing about the military when blacks were going to be integrated back in 1946? Same result here...the world didn’t end, and it won’t. It was the right thing to do, and we can all be proud of the diversity we now see.”
And you know what? There will be no dissenting opinion.
The next time this comes up is when we go head to head with an opponent who is going to make our elite units use every single ounce of capability to complete a mission, and it isn’t going to happen. We may find ourselves in a situation where we don’t control the air or the sea. Our avenues of supply have been cut off, and our units have to do with their brains and brawn and endurance to win. And we are going to lose, and lose badly.
We will lose badly, because our opponents won’t be stupid enough to do what we have done to our military. Damn, this makes me angry.

Yes, I believe she was a Native American. I thought I’d read that more than 100 women had been killed in combat since 9/11; I know that they’d reached 50 by 2006.
I think they’ll always have new recruits as long as the economy is horrible; I don’t think they have enough that “believe in the mission” anymore, so they have to lower the bar in many areas to keep up the numbers.
Scene: Fierce fighting, many killed and wounded on each side. Shouting and screams and gunfire.
A female soldier on the US side stands up in the foxhole.
Female soldier: Cease fire for a while guys. I have to go potty.
Both sides stop shooting.
The female runs towards a mobile porter potty placed at a safe distance. A sign on the door reads GUN FREE ZONE
Patrol sergeant: If youve got em light em.
The other soldiers light cigarettes, chat.
Female soldier returns.
Patrol sergeant: Commence fighting.
Ah yes the newer more female friendly army, wars etc.
And thus, also, ;the reason that they hiss & scream insults at anyone who refuses to acknowledge the myths of equality & the notion that all people are interchangeable.
There is no hope so long as most of the people on our side let themselves be cowed by those screamed & hissed insults. That is the only argument the crack-pots have; but it has proven an effective one for the past two generations.

Integrating the military was the right thing to do.
Allowing homosexuals to openly serve and allowing women in ships and combat units is not the right thing to do!
The military exists for one reason alone: KILL PEOPLE AND BREAK THINGS!
Any “social engineering” or other “change” that does not increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the military to accomplish its primary mission is dangerous to the security and health of the USA.
And the people who push for and implement these changes have no business being in the positions they are in. And, HST, getting fired is not sufficient punishment for those dumbasses!
The real problem the US military faces is Political Correctness. I’d wager that there are, literally, thousands of enlisted men and officers, who, if they knew they would not be punished for saying so, would testify that allowing openly homosexual men and women to serve and allowing women to serve in combat units, including USN ships, is harmful and detrimental to mission accomplishment.
Any enlisted or officer who would dare to speak out against these dumbass social engineering changes would be immediately cashiered — many already have been.
We cannot afford to lose another war — the next one we lose will mean the end of the USA as the beacon of FReedom to the world.
And then where will civilization be?
We are in agreement...I hope you didn’t misinterpret my mentioning in my example of what we will hear from the talking heads as if I didn’t think it was the right thing. The left likens these issues to civil rights issues, and they will use that as a bludgeon to move their agenda.

I was an F-4/F-111/EF-111 guy. In all my trips to PSAB, I never once got to set a foot off base. I’d have worn a burka to get off the damn place.... ;>)

I read a book a while back “Bogeys and Bandits: The Making of a Fighter Pilot”, and boy, they had one female pilot in there who sounded like an arrogant pain in the butt...my guess is, it is the ones who have a chip on their shoulder, like McSally, who make other military personnel grit their teeth.
I know we agree. No problem.
Just venting for any FReeper who cares to read and understand where we are and how we got here.
It might be that these Generals are boot licking. However, I believe many like Dempsey are actually of the ilk to carry on with their own attitudes. I was on the lowest end of a army totem pole in WWII. I had to give reverence to any guy up the ladder especially officers. Once the war was over and I was freed from the concepts of rank obedience I developed my own person. Since then I give no special tribute to those that lorded over me. Too many are just smucks below my civil tolerance. It boils down to when and where a person should or have to in good conscience recognize the human standing of any other humans. I have lived a good life, college degree, 56 years of very good marriage to a wonderful woman and many good friends but I will not place 4 stars on a mans shoulder as signifying that man is necessarily worthy of my respect.
