It’s always good news when a tornado disapperars into the sky...but then you have to clean up the mess.

Jeff Patch has done some extremely in-depth reporting on Harkin’s shenanigans. I have no idea if that is a factor is Harkin’s retirement but it couldn’t have done Harkin any good. theiowarepublican.com

At best Iowa is a 50/50 state as to what you’ll get.

That never fails to mystify me, but I believe you're right. One of my sisters went to U of Iowa in the 60s. I love my sister, but to be honest? I don't think she'll ever recover from either one. Grandpa was right about Iowa City.

I know Tom Harkin personally and have visited him in his little beach cottage at Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. He seemed to be one of those professional pols who had a fine ear for his constituents in Iowa and could therefore inoculate himself from criticism and political defeat. This allowed him to behave in a way that was 180 degrees out from the nature of the people of Iowa, even considering the odd pacifist strain that runs through the state. Good to see him go.
