A Republican legislator in New Mexico is seeking to force pregnant rape victims to carry the pregnancy to term, claiming the fetus could be used as "evidence" at trial.
Rep. Cathrynn Brown's bill would charge a rape victim who sought an abortion with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence," The Huffington Post reported Wednesday.
"Tampering with evidence consists of destroying, changing, hiding, placing or fabricating any physical evidence with intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any person or to throw suspicion of the commission of a crime upon another," House Bill 206 reads.
~snip~
"The bill turns victims of rape and incest into felons and forces them to become incubators of evidence for the state, ProgressNow New Mexico member Pat Davis told HuffPost. According to Republican philosophy, victims who are legitimately raped will now have to carry the fetus to term in order to prove their case.

Another stupid Republican. The dead baby and placenta can be genetically tested in the event of an abortion - this is common practice.
I am pro-life, but if I were a legislator I would vote for an anti-abortion law with rape exceptions, gaining what protection I could for the unborn.
You won’t be able to convince people that abortion even in the case of rape is wrong unless you have FIRST convinced them that abortion is wrong and should be illegal in the ordinary case.
A character deficiency on my part, no doubt. It's a situation in which there are no good choices.
What a stupid headline, there is no possibility of a pre-rape abortion.
Would a rape victim wait months to have a d and c?
I loathe abortions. But if some piece of slime attacked my wife or daughter I would recommend an immediate scraping to clean whatever filth could possibly have contaminated her health.
Huffington Post seems to be throwing a hissyfit at the light being shed on Planned Parenthood’s PRO-RAPE policy of destroying the evidence AND NOT REPORTING IT TO THE POLICE when a minor is raped, sexually assaulted, enters into a relationship with an adult, etc.
Planned Parenthood has repeatedly been caught on tape ENCOURAGING young girls to LIE in their paperwork so the abortion can proceed with no criminal investigation PERMITTING THE RAPIST TO CONTINUE HIS CRIMES.
I’m not standing here to say that rape victims should be forced to bear a child (although it is no sin of the child or mother that caused the pregnancy). But I will say that the HuffPost Hysterics are misdirected because they shield PRO-RAPE abortionists. Rape is good for their business and they know it.
How about the phrase in the article..... legitimately raped?
I guess its possible to be illegitimately raped?
Ahhh, semantics.
In fairness to Rep. Brown, her bill says “with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime” so unless the pregnant woman herself intended to destroy evidence, the bill doesn’t apply to her - it is likely intended to apply to a sexual abuser who takes his victim for an abortion, or anyone else collaborating with the effort to hide the rape, statutory or otherwise.
MSM: this guy = all republicans
One effective tactic when arguing with a pro-abort is to “accept” all their exceptions that they bring up, leaving them arguing for abortion at all times during pregnancy for the sake of convenience.
They won’t want to be in that position, but that’s all you should leave them, to show them the folly of their position.
This tactic is misplaced. You don’t outlaw abortions because the fetus is evidence of a crime, you outlaw abortions because killing children is murder.
This law would only protect unborn children because they are a useful tool to prosecute rape. Normally conceived children would be assumed to have no value.
If you are truly as conflicted as you say, perhaps you should leave it up to the woman?
When the prescription is too cute by half and easily opens up to ridicule the side supposedly being helped, one has to wonder if we are dealing with a counter-agent.
I don’t believe it
This bill has no chance of passing.
But perhaps the real intent is to compromise and force the abortionists to secure DNA samples of the little baby before/during/after the murder so as to have proof of paternity in rape cases.
Whatever extra steps can be made to force abortionists to recognize that this is human life they are destroying is a good thing.
Absolutely stupid and probably won’t hold up in court. This is why Republicans look like such jerks.
Do you think that the MSM will forget to mention that the
proposed legislation was proposed by a woman?
Mike
This has to be a democrat mole posing as a Republican to cause more damage. Nobody can be stupid enough to force a rape victim to carry a rapists child.
Even senators akin and mourdock understand such a ignorant law would destroy the GOP.
The problem is that abortion mills are basically uncontrolled. If you want to deal with the abortion issue, you don’t go after the woman, you go after the doctor providing the service. Make it criminal for them with stiff penalties.
This clears up alot of the rape and incest issue. Doctors must encourage raped women to seek adoption or keep their baby. They can abort and won’t be penalized if they do, but they must seek out other options first before making that decision.
Years ago I read about a socialite who had an abortion at five months and divorced her husband because he wouldn’t spring for a $3000 maternity party dress.
Now a pro-abort would say there were long standing marital problems that came to a head and she decided it would be too difficult to raise a child alone and keep a necessary forced connection with the child’s father.
No. Besides, leftists already "know" that all republicans think this way anyway, so what real harm is this state rep doing? If she can use this position and bargain down some way to force abortion clinics to really provide DNA samples before/during/after the killing of a child, and this results in fewer abortions then its all good.
How liberals think of Republicans:
The real feminist/”progressive” complaint is that Brown is going after those who seek and get abortions instead of others who are currently blamed for all of society’s problems.
Probably - doesn’t fit the “old fat whiteman republican” meme.
Who is advising Rep. Cathrynn Brown? Clod Akin? Or Dick Mourdock?
The problem is that abortion mills are basically uncontrolled...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly. And that is why I keep thinking this bill - which has no chance of passing - MIGHT lead to a less restrictive measure that requires the killing fields (abortionaries) to tighten up and therefore reduce the mass murders that occur daily.
And that is a good thing.
Her husband is very much better off without her.
The New Mexico Republican should have waited until November 1, 2016 to introduce this bill.
“Now a pro-abort would say there were long standing marital problems that came to a head...”
I think pretty much anybody would say that about that marriage.
The woman was foolish though. She should have kept the baby, still dumped the husband, and hired a really good lawyer.
Are some of these guys Democratic plants?
I oppose abortion and would strongly urge each woman to search her soul deeply before undergoing this procedure. I would do everything possible to convince someone not to have one. But beyond that Roe vs Wade is now the Law of the Land and until we sucessfully convince people otherwise, that is all can do, and even if we do eventually succeed, I would an idiotic inititive like this one would never be implemented.
Rape is rape.
We have two less seats in the Senate because of two morons like this individual.
“No. Besides, leftists already “know” that all republicans think this way anyway, so what real harm is this state rep doing?”
The harm this idiot is doing is -confirming and proving- that everything they are screaming about republicans is 100% accurate. Republicans and their wacky rape theories are the biggest reason why we have Obama again.
And if some pack of urban youths raped my daughter, and she was lucky enough not to be murdered in the process id be feeding her plan-B and RU-486 like they were m&m’s. If that makes me bad, then so be it. But i know im not alone.
” perhaps you should leave it up to the woman?”
I yield second place to no one in opposition to abortion. Yet, I will not presume to dictate to a rape victim her course of action as regards the baby she is carrying, only to urge her to let it live, deliver it and give it up for adoption, or raise it herself as is done by a rather substantial percentage of rape victims.
Ridiculous Asshat.
I am not for abortion but, on this issue I can see it happening and I don’t know, somehow it being equivocally right.
I am right there with you.
conflicted and I too believe it is a character flaw of mine and God will deal with me but, today I can’t fix it.
You’re not the first on this thread to imply that if your daughter was raped, you’d have her go through with an abortion.
But I wonder where all the libertarians are? The ones that screech; “See?? This is why we republicans should avoid the social issues and this is why we should take abortion off the table as we also ignore gay marriages!”
I bet that well over 90% of Republicans agree with you. This is one issue where the fringe is just killing us election after election. Forcing women to be incubators for rapists is a nonstarter.
This legislator is an idiot...a ‘Useful Idiot’. I have a better suggestion...make ‘random, serial’rape a capital offense. Abort the evil ones from this life.
Sperm is evil.
Another stupid Republican steps in it.
Because if there is no supply, demand is irrelevant. Putting young girls in prison, especially for rape abortions, well never fly. The licensed and regulated doctor who must meet standards, they should no better. Make it too much to lose and you will end the abortion problem.
No. Only possibly STD infected sperm deposited by force is.
My son in law turned out to be a real piece of work. I can't stand my filthy disgusting grandkids. I wish they were dead. /s
I have never seen an incubator that produces rapists.
Make that “incubators for the offspring of rapists.”
Your SIL was a rapist stranger?
Sounds like you put 2 and 2 together and got RU486?
I’m talking about immediate action after a horrible assault and nothing more. Not the end of the first trimester nor the middle. But the NEXT DAY.
No, he wasn't a rapist. He was some other type of bad thing that makes me want to kill his offspring.
What age is the dividing line between too late to kill and early enough to kill?
None of them can dress themselves yet so I may still have time.
