The Antigun Movement's Bridge Too Far
American Thinker ^ | 1/23/13 | William A Levinson

Posted on 01/23/2013 9:55:47 PM PST by Winged Hussar

Overextension is a classic way to snatch catastrophic defeat from the jaws of victory. Examples include Napoleon's invasion of Russia, Hitler's decision to start a war with Russia before he finished his war with Britain, and Operation Market Garden. The latter debacle was the origin of the phrase, "A bridge too far."

Overextension is often the result of hubris, the delusion of invincibility as exemplified by Napoleon and Hitler. The enemies of the Bill of Rights have similarly assumed they could exploit the blood of the murder victims to revive an agenda that had been put down hard in 2000, but their resulting hubris yielded at least three irrevocably self-damning statements that should turn their opportunity into a catastrophe.

This will not, however, happen by itself. If this material stays at American Thinker and on the referenced Web sites, it will do little good. We need to spread it as widely as possible via letters to the editor, personal contacts, and talk radio. We also need to use it to remind our Senators and Members of Congress that gun control is why Democrats lose elections.

Obama curiously left out any mention of gun control from his inauguration speech

That's incorrect. He basically said his political opponents want more children to die ("our journey is not complete" until all law abiding citizens are stripped of the second amendment rights)

It ain’t a “Bridge to Far” until to you cut them off to prevent retreat and slaughter the bridgehead. Don’t see that happening.

Need to keep the Democrats from retreating, cut them off from any support, then use their anti-freedom stance to destroy them. The ‘Pubbies, esp. Senate ‘Pubbies, don’t have the guts.

Look at NY, they just gutted the 2a.

NY has been a cradle of tyranny as long as I can remember. The problem is New Yorkers. The vast majority of them love the taste of boot polish on their tongues and the feel of chains on their necks. Further they hate fear and envy those of us who don't want to be slaves to the govenment and want to inflict their degenerate ideas on the rest of us. Filth like Carolyn McCarthy, upChuck Schumer. etc. did not get elected by accident in NY. They were elected because the accurately reflect the "values" of those who voted them into office.

Except that the dims always ask for much more than they actually want.

And then they expect us to "compromise" to this exchange: we give up some more of our freedom, and they take it.

DiFi is the foil. She’s “safe”, can’t lose her spot for introducing something egregious like this. Reid would be in a jam if he did it.
Also, people EXPECT over-the-top liberal craziness out of her.

But, keep in mind, this bill is cover fire for the “compromise” which will still greatly infringe on our 2A rights.

I heard no such thing, and I watched the speech live.

I never watch any of his teleprompter readings live. I read the transcripts and I still miss stuff. He did indeed call for "gun control", but can't use that phrase because then he would much rather use a phrase like "child safety". When he sends a proposed law to Congress you can bet it will be called the Newtown memorial common sense child safety law or something like that.
