The number of Americans age 16 or older who decided not to work or even to seek a job increased by 8,332,000 to a record 88,839,000 in President Barack Obama’s first term, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. At the same time, the number of retired workers collecting Social Security increased by only 4,234,480.

The increase in Americans opting out of the labor force during Obama’s first term resulted in a decrease in the labor force participation rate from 65.7 percent in January 2009, the month Obama was first inaugurated, to 63.6 percent in December 2012, the latest month reported. Before Obama took office, the labor force participation rate had not been as low as 63.6 percent since 1981, the year President Ronald Reagan took over from President Jimmy Carter. …

When Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, there were 80,507,000 American civilians age 16 or older who did not have a job or seek one. In December 2012, there were 88,839,000—thus, the increase of 8,332,000. … In the comparable period of George W. Bush’s second term, the number of Americans choosing not to participate in the labor force went from 76,808,000 in January 2005 to 80,380,000 in December 2012—an increase of 3,572,000. …

Obama’s secret plan to get unemployment to 0%

Just get everyone else to drop out of the work force.

I believe he's deliberately trying to create chaos. The more chaos, the bigger the crises.
Never let a crises go to waste. If you aren't lucky enough to be given one - you manufacture one.
The bigger the crises, the greater the exploitation of it can be.
Imagine what he could do with social unrest! It would be an Allah given gold mine!

Does anyone know what the unemployment rate would be if those 8 million plus people were added?

Look Republicans finally lost their shrinking electoral lead, by forever shipping workers offshore (leaving the workers, but sending the jobs to people who cannot vote).

Enough.

Time for the GOP to be about workers. American workers.

That is the winning subject for the future. American jobs, American work, and American greatness.

Just saying. I know it’s a big change from the past, but the current thing is (very) broken.

Bring back American jobs now.

Lots of them.

that picture paints an economic picture that is completely different from the economic paintings created by the MSM. It’s as if they purposely ignore information like this and only tell us things that shed a positive light on Barack Obama even when it clearly isn’t an honest light. I think there’s a word for that...propaganda.

The single best measure of the health on an economy is Velocity

And there has been no improvement of working man's income

And a vicious deterioration of net worth relative to debt

I have a tame business that I have worked for years and my husband made alot of our money from the labor force. He put two boys through college and then lost his job.

But now he is employed by my business trying to make it into a monster big thing...which I have no doubt he will do, because that is what he does in life. Dang, he is smart and determined.

I would have rathered things stayed like they were until retirement before dear reader came along and wrecked the heck out of everything. LOL, oh well. Life sucks and it is going to be okay.
