On the one month anniversary of the Newtown school shooting, a group of Michigan mayors called for action to end gun violence.
They're demanding universal background checks, a ban on military assault-style weapons and gun trafficking made a federal crime.
"We're facing an avalanche, we are having guns rain down on us and bullets are raining down on our citizens," Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero said. "It has already been a terrible January in Lansing and we're not unique."
Joining with law enforcement, the mayors are asking for the federal government to step in. They want additional, legal means to curb what they call a growing list of gun-related homicides.
"There may be a day without one, but then the next day we have two," Flint Mayor, Dayne Walling said. "In the City of Flint we were shocked for a homicide to be perpetrated in a church, at a funeral this weekend."
Currently, federal law only requires background checks at federally licensed dealers. No background check is needed for private, online or gun show sales. ....
"We've got to get serious in this country about tracking these killing machines and that's what they are," Bernero said emphatically. He says Newtown is all the proof we need.
“and gun trafficking made a federal crime. “”
He’ll have to talk to Holder and Obama about that.
Looks like this “group” amounts to a couple of democrats.
Bernero needs to lead the way by cleaning up his own city first.
Uh, those "machines" are the 'rat peeps Bernero coddles in his city.
Funny thing is that I can’t remember the last time there was a mass shooting in a Michigan school. There are the gang bangers in Detroit who occasionally fire into a crowd but no mass murders like Sandy Hook.
We do hold the record for the highest number killed when Andrew Kehoe blew up the Bath school back in the 20s.
“Look at me! I’m Sandy (D)!”
Not one word will address or offer a solution about the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings using illegaly obtained mostly handguns and revolvers .Not assault weapons” which are really single shot per trigger pull rifles, used for small game hunting or target practice. That are made to look like their military counterpart. Those by the way are by a DOD decision small caliber and designed to wound, because a wounded soldier ties up front line personnell, not necessarilly kill which is why they are automatic and fire many rounds while the trigger is in the pulled position. .
Here’s an interesting statistic from the 2011 Chicago Police Department Annual Report.
Total murders: 433
By rifles of all types: 1
By knives: 17
By hands /feet/ fists: 13
They’re not changing gun laws, they’re adding gun laws, to accompany the more than 22,000 gun laws already on the books.
Pretty soon, we might just reach the magic number of gun laws that will put an end to all the violence. We just have to keep creating new criminals with all the new laws.
Flint and Bernaro, goes together like crap and stink............
Another despatate distraction attempt from failed mayors...
While we are improving on gun laws, we still have registration in pistols. It sure doesn’t work in Flint, that’s for sure. Or Detroit, Pontiac, Inkster, Saginaw, and Benton Harbor.
