N.Y. Assembly Speaker Silver: ‘We Are Going To Ban Assault Weapons’
CBS New York ^ | 1/14/2013 | CBS

ALBANY (CBSNewYork) – The New York State Legislature was poised Monday night to pass the first gun control measure following the Newtown school massacre. This as the vice president was set to unveil federal proposals to end gun violence on Tuesday.

Albany lawmakers have reportedly ironed out the kinks, allowing them to enact new gun control measures in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting. Assuming the new bill passes — it was sent to both house of the Legislature on Monday night — it will turn into the toughest set of gun control laws in the country. ...

The new state legislation will:

* Limit ammunition clips to seven. It’s now 10

* Force gun owners to renew their licenses every five years

* Stiffen penalties for using a gun in the commission of a crime

* Stiffen penalties for bringing a gun on school property

* New restrictions on the assault weapons already owned by New Yorkers

“They will be basically not permitted to be transferred. They will be grandfathered in but not in terms of a transfer. There will be a registry,” Silver said.

And Mr. Silver, I’m cutting NY off. Tell your second rate PD not to call me again for any services or guns. If you send any guns to me for service, I’ll render them compliant with your laws by permanently disabling them.

“The political buffoons are total morons. You can’t kill anyone with 7 rounds? What a stupid law.”

No, think about it, who is going to make 7 round mags for NY? This means that if you have a mag it’s illegal. Also this covers garands.

The only handgun with a 7 round mag is the 1911 afaik.

The 7-round limit means that even en bloc clips for the Garand will be verboten.

Our government doesn’t treat al Queda this way. :(

Agents of the law
Luckless pedestrian
I know you’re out there
With rage in your eyes and your megaphones
Saying all is forgiven
Mad Dog surrender
How can I answer
A man of my mind can do anything
CHORUS:
I’m a bookkeeper’s son
I don’t want to shoot no one
Well I crossed my old man back in Oregon
Don’t take me alive
Got a case of dynamite
I could hold out here all night
Yes I crossed my old man back in Oregon
Don’t take me alive

Mitt Romney. When he ran for the Senate and for governor, he supported a ban on assault rifles and the Brady Bill's five-day waiting period for gun purchases. He proudly said those positions wouldn't make him "the hero of the NRA." As governor, he made Massachusetts the first state to permanently ban assault weapons. He has even flip-flopped about whether he owns any guns. In New Hampshire, he was asked his view on the Second Amendment. He responded that he had been a hunter "pretty much all my life." Later, red-faced aides of Romney had to admit that Romney had never had a hunting license, and under further questioning, Romney acknowledged that his "lifetime of hunting" was having shot at some birds during a Republican governors meeting during a fund-raising event and maybe shooting at "small varmints" when he was seventeen with his cousin.

At least your stalwarts of the Stupid Party still hold the House.....last I checked legislation was supposed to go through both chambers of Congress.

Thanks for continuing to support spineless unprincipled jackasses like Myth, Boner, Cantor, and McCain and showing the Stupid Party they have no reason to represent or uphold the Constitution.

Let your GOP-E masters know that blaming the voters isn't a viable party platform.

“Anyone with balls in the New York state senate?”

I called NY Senator Ball today, but to tell the truth all his aide wanted to talk about was the bill Ball was introducing that outlaws outing gun owners.

If we have gun confiscation, we won’t have to worry about who is outed since no one will have a gun.

I started the search for a job to leave NY to night. I am just tired of fighting these SOBs. The state RNC is little better than the dems. They couldn’t field a real candidate if their lives depended on it. They fold at the slightest sign of pressure. My disgust for this state grows day by day.

The gun control fiasco was the last straw. I’m done here in spirit and looking for a new place to call home.

I am glad to hear this!

A lot of people in New York don't even know this is happening!

The word I’m hearing now is that a midnight vote is planned on this in NY (according to SCOPE - Shooter’s Committee on Political Education). Believe me - there are A LOT of New Yorkers who have been calling, writing, faxing & emailing everyone they can think of in NYS politics over the past 2 weeks to make our voices heard (including a good number of us who live behind enemy lines - meaning downstate, particularly Long Island). If you don’t live here, you can’t begin to understand the frustration we’re feeling right now. We put up with a lot already, living in New York. And for many of us, this is the last straw - we’re actively seeking to get out of this hellhole, even if it means leaving family & roots behind, and taking a significant cut in pay. Nothing is worth this. For myself, I’m looking at Georgia...

If I were an American gun owner, I’d stash everything, except a sacrificial weapon or two, so the authorities could assume they got everything, in case they decide to come collecting.

“Force gun owners to renew their licenses every five years”

Hey, they have precedent now.

You have to purchase health insurance in order to remain a law-abdiding citizen.

Having to provide a government that should not be trusted with a list of the weapons you own and where you live...and to pay...increasingly punitive fees...in order to do so, is a logical progression from that tyrannical precedent.
