N.Y. Assembly Speaker Silver: ‘We Are Going To Ban Assault Weapons’
CBS New York ^ | 1/14/2013 | CBS

Posted on 01/14/2013 6:31:50 PM PST by FR_addict

ALBANY (CBSNewYork) – The New York State Legislature was poised Monday night to pass the first gun control measure following the Newtown school massacre. This as the vice president was set to unveil federal proposals to end gun violence on Tuesday.

Albany lawmakers have reportedly ironed out the kinks, allowing them to enact new gun control measures in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting. Assuming the new bill passes — it was sent to both house of the Legislature on Monday night — it will turn into the toughest set of gun control laws in the country. ...

The new state legislation will:

* Limit ammunition clips to seven. It’s now 10

* Force gun owners to renew their licenses every five years

* Stiffen penalties for using a gun in the commission of a crime

* Stiffen penalties for bringing a gun on school property

* New restrictions on the assault weapons already owned by New Yorkers

“They will be basically not permitted to be transferred. They will be grandfathered in but not in terms of a transfer. There will be a registry,” Silver said.

Because the Jews didn’t leave ‘armed’ they were led out by the Lord, who fought for them. (Ex.14:14).

"“The new state legislation will:

"Limit ammunition clips to seven. It’s now 10."
And that will do what? And what is a clip to you pussy dumbasses? You dipshits amaze me in your absolute fear of anything that shoots.

"Force gun owners to renew their licenses every five years."
And even with those requirements, they will still have guns. What a stupid requirement. You registration morons don't get it. The bad buys don't register their weapons and never will. They buy them in the back alleys.

"Stiffen penalties for using a gun in the commission of a crime." Really? Those laws have been on the books for years in every State. Again, idiots.

"Stiffen penalties for bringing a gun on school property."
Great idea. And while you're at it, make sure your Gun Free Zone sign includes the words, "We Are Defenseless - Kill us Now".

"New restrictions on the assault weapons already owned by New Yorkers."
No worries...geeze you people are beyond stupid. "They will be basically not permitted to be transferred. They will be grandfathered in but not in terms of a transfer. There will be a registry,” Silver said."

How old are you Silver? What 10 maybe 12 years old? You really think this is how it will work? 300 million guns are not going away. Grow up.

Every one of you anti self-defense controlling dumbasses need to have an intrusion in your home. You need to experience a home invasion and watch the bad guy put a round into your belly as you bleed out. I'm sick of you liberal asswholes. I hope you get one or two in the stomach and lay on floor feeling the pain as your blood builds within your liberal body.

Isn't the administration's preferred phrasing "common sense proposals to end gun violence?" Why not go all the way?

http://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/9874/showrashi/true armed: Heb. חִמֻשִׁים וַחִמֻשִׁים [in this context] can only mean “armed.” (Since He led them around in the desert [circuitously], He caused them to go up armed, for if He had led them around through civilization, they would not have [had to] provide for themselves with everything that they needed, but only [part,] like a person who travels from place to place and intends to purchase there whatever he will need. But if he travels a long distance into a desert, he must prepare all his necessities for himself. This verse was written only to clarify the matter, so you should not wonder where they got weapons in the war with Amalek and in the wars with Sihon and Og and Midian, for the Israelites smote them with the point of the sword.) [In an old Rashi]) And similarly [Scripture] says: “and you shall cross over armed (חִמֻשִׁים)” (Josh. 1:14). And so too Onkelos rendered מְזָרְזִין just as he rendered: “and he armed (וְזָרֵיז) his trained men” (Gen. 14:14). Another interpretation: חִמֻשִׁים means “divided by five,” [meaning] that one out of five (חִמִֹשָה) [Israelites] went out, and four fifths [lit., parts of the people] died during the three days of darkness [see Rashi on Exod. 10:22]. — [from Mechilta, Tanchuma, Beshallach 1]

My senator is Michael Ranzenhofer (NY District 61) and he voted against this bill, but there were enough Republican senators willing to vote for this unconstitutional bill to pass it by a 43-18 margin, betraying their constituents!

A huge number of legal gun owners in NY State will now be criminals. They can’t use the gun because there are no 7 round clips. This endless ‘making of law’s makes everyone a criminal for something. Easier to round us up if we are all criminals.

Anyone thinking we aren’t in a tyranny now is absolutely nuts.

And, in case you are wondering, the patriot act wasn’t made for muslims, it was made for getting rid of conservatives. We have, very patriotically, sown the seeds of our own destruction.

http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S1422-2013

I believe the above link is the bill the NYS Senate has passed. All full capacity mags are banned, even those produced pre-94. Pump action rifles that accept detachable mags are now assault weapons. There is also a section on criminal possession of a firearms being having more than 10 guns but I may not be interpreting that correctly. Nasty stuff that make law abiding gunowners the scapegoats for the actions nutcases. What a freaking disgrace.

None of those proposed NY state laws will have any effect on gang shootings which is the real problem. And neither do the subsequent 100+ comments from FRs. That’s the power the MSM has over the discussion. Which is why there’s a reference to ghouls in my posting #14.

The sad thing is posting a direction such as #14 which puts the “Libs” on the defence gets completely ignored and subsequently we lose the issue . .

It always helps to have made a good argument. When you do so, you weaken the resolve of your opponent, even if you lose the overall debate.

If they ever do ban and then attempt to confiscate, God forbid, I assume there will be resistance. At that point, it is crucial that those who resist have logically, calmly and coolly made the case already.

Those of us who live upstate can only do so much when there is a huge cancerous mass of Obama parasites and gun haters in NYC. That is who controls the legislature. And in NY all we have are RINO Repubs anyway.

The one thing I didnt see in this bill is a 7 round magazine restriction which was widely reported in the local media.

Using a state to pass the first big anti gun legislation was actually brilliant. While we were all busy fighting and talking about the Federal anti-2nd amendment bills, New York Democrats with the help of RINO Republicans are pushing through an anti-2nd and anti-4th amendment bill.

Divide and conquer. This is not meant to be a New York bashing thread, but a thread for ideas and to spread the word.

If anyone knows TeaParties in New York that will help get the word out, please post the information. How about the gun organizations? What are they going to do?

What is the best way to get this in the courts?
We need 2nd-amendment attorneys to help us?
We need the populace to wake up.
It is happening. Our rights are being stolen from us.

You are absolutely right. A lead pipe is an assault weapon so I guess we should ban all plumbing supplies. While we're at it, screwdrivers, hammers, nail guns, stapplers and letter openers should also be banned. Hey I got it, let's all move back into caves and start all freekin over! McCulloch v. Maryland

My memory is a little hazy on it, but I thought it was the Supreme Court case that established the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and that states couldn't usurp it with their own internal laws.

According to Wikipedia, I was almost right: "state action may not impede valid constitutional exercises of power by the Federal government." Of course, this decision seems to skirt the 10th Amendment, so...

Maybe I'm thinking of another SCOTUS case?

Yes. That may well be on purpose => using “clips” would outlaw an 8 round enbloc for an M1Garand...thereby making a garand an assault weapon by default?

This song speaks to Ireland’s struggle for freedom, but much of it applies in America now...

A Nation Once Again
Written By Thomas Davis.

When boyhood’s fire was in my blood I read of ancient free men
For Greece and Rome who bravely stood three hundred men and three men
And then I prayed I yet might see our fetters rent in twain
And Ireland long a province be a nation once again

(Chorus)

A nation once again , a nation once again
And Ireland long a province be a nation once again

And from that time through wildest woe that hope has shone a far light
Nor could love’s brightest summer glow outshine that solemn starlight
It seemed to watch above my head in forum fields and fame
It’s angle voice sang ‘round my head a nation once again

(Chorus)

It whispered to that freedoms ark and service high and holy
Would be freedom found my feelings dark and passions vain or lowly
For freedom comes from Gods right hand and needs a godly train
And righteous men must make our land a nation once again

(Chorus)

So as I grew from boy to man I bent me to that bidding
My spirit of each selfish plan and cruel passion ridding
For thus I hope someday to aid oh can such hope be vain
When my dear country should be made a nation once again

That is exactly correct - this is the beginning of confiscation. If this law stands then it can be used as a template anywhere in the country. An incredible amount of honest citizens are now going to be defacto criminals. More people to put in jail! The USA (land of liberty) does have the most prisoners in the world, both numerically and per capita.

We are apparently building more prisons - to fit all the conservatives. And the patriot act will be used to hunt the conservatives down.

It makes me sick.
