As the sister of a violent schizophrenic who wasn’t put in the psyche ward until after he killed someone, I can say that anything that makes it easier to identify and commit violently mentally ill people to a secure treatment facility would be a good thing.

Also, as a general crime fighting matter, our culture would do well to really know our neighbors.

Sad tale. I live 5 miles from the town of Webster (NY), where the two volunteer fireman were recently ambushed by a whack-job .. who had killed his grandmother about 20 years ago.
The younger of the two victims had been a student in my son's class last year (he's a teacher) and he's just devastated.
